Can’t Be Too Careful: Open Mike Eagle “Extra Consent” (Music Video) Featuring LIZZO

“Extra Consent” finds Open Mike Eagle and pop powerhouse Lizzo at the end of a very successful date. As Lizzo leans in for a kiss, Mike decides he needs more permission – bringing in a contract, a panic button, and a notary public – to make sure he truly has consent. Lizzo eventually reels him in, letting him know he just needs to read her body language.

“It was amazing working with Lizzo on this song,” said Open Mike Eagle. “She brought an incredible visceral energy to balance my cerebral approach to the subject matter. When I brought her the song I asked her to respond to my verse with whatever her real reaction would be if she were in that situation. It was very important to me to have a strong female voice to provide perspective on this song given that historically women have been the gender group most affected by the notion of clarity around consent. Apologies in advance to anyone for whom this is a sensitive subject.”

“Extra Consent” will air in the May 10th episode of the stand-up and music series, The New Negroes with Baron Vaughn & Open Mike Eagle at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.
