VanJess Covers Zhané’s “Groove Thang” as a Part of Amazon Music’s R&B Rotation

Nigerian-American R&B duo VanJess released a cover of Zhané’s ’90s R&B classic, “Groove Thang,” available only on Amazon Music. The new take on Zhané’s original is only available on Amazon Music and featured as a part of R&B Rotation, a recently launched Updating every Friday, the playlist offers a deep dive into the best in modern R&B, featuring everyone from exciting new talents like VanJess to established stars such as Khalid.

“Zhane is one of the most influential R&B groups of our time. ‘Groove Thang’ has such good vibes and positive energy, and it’s one of those songs that makes you happy once you hear it,” said Jessica Nwokike from VanJess. “That’s a quality we hope comes through in our music. We think music should be able to make people feel good and take them to a better place. It does for us.”

Originally hailing from Lagos, Nigeria, the two sisters have brought an entirely new take to contemporary R&B, once that pays tribute to ’90s R&B greats like TLC, SWV, and Aaliyah while bringing their own, more modern take to their music. VanJess first garnered attention for their jawdropping R&B covers of R&B classics on YouTube. Cutting their teeth online, the duo burst on the scene with their self-released debut album, Silk Canvas, last summer. The album was a definitive R&B statement, a smooth, seductive record the found the sisters collaborating with artists like GoldLink, Masego, and KAYTRANDA. The album established the group as a R&B group to watch, one set to take the R&B world by storm.
