Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin On The Growth Of SohoMuse, Life During COVID-19, Music & More

There are a lot of reasons why Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin is one of the more interesting people that one may encounter in New York. One reason would be that she has excelled in several fields that are entirely unrelated; those fields would be music, fashion and philanthropy. Another reason would be that the projects she works on are usually ahead of the curve, striving to be unique and quality-oriented. Another reason would be that she is from an iconic New York family, although that is not something that Costin ever rests on nor intentionally brings up when being interviewed.

On the fashion end, Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin debuted the Homage line on HSN in 2015, a line inspired by family heirlooms. She has also been a brand ambassador for the German-Italian shoe brand, Michela Rigucci. In terms of her music career, Costin has performed live alongside Joe Cocker, Vanessa Carlton and Mya, and she has released a handful of Billboard-charting singles (e.g. “Body Needs,” “Feel So Alive,” “Naked,” “Here We Go”). Pairing up her business skills and her passion for the creative arts, she is one of the bright minds behind SohoMuse, a professional networking website for the global creative community. As if that were not enough, Consuelo also runs her own production company (C&R Productions), serves on the board of the Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Greater California, and has also co-chaired the American Heart Association’s Hamptons Heart Ball in the past.

The aforementioned SohoMuse provides creative professionals with all the tools they need to promote projects, source talent and share and sell services, all inside a vetted community. The invitation-only platform launched in 2017 and is open to qualified Creatives in all areas of the creative variety, from music and film, to art, fashion and beyond. The current COVID-19 pandemic has caused an even bigger necessity for artists to have access to opportunities in an already highly competitive industry, and SohoMuse A Virtual Entertainment Series — S.A.V.E.S., for short — provides a virtual stage for artists to perform, stay connected with audiences and fans, and generate revenue.

In partnership with MUSETEK, SohoMuse’s intimate and interactive series has featured some great talent, including Tiffany, acclaimed singer David Raleigh (as accompanied by Diana Ross’s daughter Rhonda Ross), nightlife legend Kevin Aviance, celebrity choreographer Noel Bajandas, and Kinky Boots star Kevin Smith Kirkwood. Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin has been hands-on throughout the series, personally overseeing soundchecks and introducing the artists before each performance.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin, who can be followed on Twitter via @ConsueloCostin and/or through Instagram, via Zoom on June 17, 2020. Our full chat is embedded below for your viewing and listening pleasure, in addition to other recent interviews of Costin’s.
