Toosii: Based On A True Story

Tell me your whole inception into music — When did you first become interested in it? And, how did it actually all begin for Toosii?

I became interested when I was about 15. I started because of my brother and dad; also I grew up around music.

Now where exactly do you hail from? And growing up there, who all did / do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?

I’m from Syracuse, New York. I really have no strong musical influences that I really know of being only 20.

At what point in time, specifically, did you even opt to pursue music on a professional basis?

Around the age 18 I started taking it seriously.

With that being said, how do you classify your overall sound and / or style?

Melodic Soul; like Gangsta Love.

In having said that, when you sit down to pen your lyrics where do you draw your inspiration(s) from?

I don’t because I don’t write, everything is a freestyle and comes off the top of my head.

Your latest single / video is entitled “Mercedez” — Tell me about this particular composition; how did it even come to fruition?

It’s based on a true story.

“Mercedez” comes courtesy of your just unleashed ‘Platinum Heart (Deluxe)’ release — Conceptually, what does that title represent both to and for you?

It defines who I am as a person. My heart is solid and worth something.

Switching gears here, what exactly do you want people to get from your music?

A different feeling. My music is like a good pain that you needed. Like having a bandage on for too long and finally being able to take it off.

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Tupac.

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

Madison Square Garden.

In terms of longevity, what do you feel it is that will continue to sustain you in this grueling industry?

I’m authentic.

Do you have any other outside / additional future aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

I want to get into real estate.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip Hop?

Yes, people are free; life is about being free.

To date, what has been your biggest career moment(s), at least thus far anyway?

Making Billboard’s Top 200 Albums with no features.

Looking ahead, say five or maybe even ten years from now, where do you see yourself?

At The Grammys, winning another Grammy.

As for the immediate, what’s next for you, Toosii?

A new album. #AfterTheStorm
