10 Things To Know About: Theo Bard

Connecting with Dat Brass and Jake Chapman, London-based Producer Theo Bard demonstrates musical remedies on new single ‘Breath.’

‘Breath’ is Theo’s first release since his ‘Inkus’ EP last year, and see’s the multi-talented artist edge towards an electro-pop arrangement, while also experimenting with components of brass; throwing hints of Benny Blanco, Elliot Moss, Anderson .Paak and Major Lazer .

The music video directed by Robbie Kilgour, sees a protagonist break away from a destructive lifestyle and finding clarity through rhythmic movements and music.

The artist tells Hype Magazine “Breath was inspired by a series of jams with Jake Chapman, the synth player for my new live show. The beat and groove for the track came from my Volca Beats – a small, battery-powered drum sequencer that is surprisingly powerful for its size. The deep groove with a huge kick sound and complex tom pattern was at once a nod to dubstep, grime, and James Blake’s brooding compositions, while Jake came up with this synth sound and Dat Brass use their huge horn sound to play out the instrumental lines.”

Intrigued by his artistry, Hype Magazine asked Theo to tell us 10 facts about himself.

10 Things To Know About Theo Bard:

  1. I never – repeat, never – turn down a swim (no matter how cold).

  8. I was a professional busker for two years and sold more than 3000 CDs on the streets.
  9. I’m currently working on a reggaeton banger – in Spanish – to rival ‘Despacito’.
  10. I wish that when I die, the songs I wrote will be played in the streets.
