Cleveland Artist Khadi Lee Discusses Growing up in Ohio and His Latest Single “Prescription”
Upcoming Cleveland, OH artist Khadi Lee is looking to lay his foundation in music. He first started recording at the age of 15 and continued to build his sound as he explored ways to position his music in front of his fans. He released his latest single “Prescription” from his latest album LVR Boy released this summer. Khadi Lee just wants to love and trusts that the right dosage will be enough.
Hype: Where are you from?
Khadi Lee: Cleveland, Ohio
Hype: When did you discover a passion for music and what inspired you to pursue a career in music? When did you decide to take it seriously and why?
Khadi Lee: When I was 5 years old. When I was 15 years old, I would record videos singing and upload them to myspace. From there I became a member of a music group where I grew my confidence.
Hype: Who are the top 3 artists that you look up to?
KL: Usher, Bruno Mars, Beyonce
Hype: What inspired your artist name?
KL: It’s a Family nickname given to me early and I just embraced it in my artistry.
Hype: Who is your motivation and why?
KL: My daughter, for a while I took a break from music. When my daughter was born the sound of my voice brought her comfort and that brought my love for music back
Hype: What message do you want to leave the fans?
KL: Trust yourself and gifts, all things you think make you weird are what makes you who you are
Hype: Describe the inspiration behind the song “Prescription”. What is the song about?
KL: How love is both the drug and the addiction.
Hype: Why did you pick this song to be your first single?
KL: The production and lyrics really take me to a place where I can feel and relate to every word.
Hype: Describe the inspiration behind the project?
Khadi: The inspiration for the project is my past relationships.
Hype: What makes this project special and how does it differ from previous projects?
KL: Storytelling, each track serves a key purpose in telling the story and connecting to LOVE.
Hype: In your opinion, what makes you stand out from other/current artists out there?
KL: My sound is classic with a twist of edge.
Hype: Any life changing stories that impacted your career, your decision to do music, your journey, etc?
Khadi: Music is deep rooted in my family’s blood. My dad has great success with plays and musicals and my grandfather was in a jazz band back in the 60’s.
Hype: Any sacrifices that you’ve made to pursue your music?
KLi: I am a full-time dad, so I put my aspirations on hold to ensure my daughter was raised properly and had the love she will need in her life to grow as the young black queen she is.
Hype: What is your goal when it comes to your music career?
KL: My goal is to tour the world and share my experience with ppl in hopes to help them through things.
Hype: What impact are you looking to make with your music?
KL: Music heals ppl, my hopes are to leave my impact in the world by sharing the stories that have molded me into what I am today?
Hype: What do you want your fans to remember you for?
KL: Vulnerability, Cutting edge, and Honest.
Hype: What is your future looking like for you? What more do you want to do?
KL: I would like to go on an international tour sometime soon, who knows the sky is the limit.
