Julien Manaud On His New EP “Adaptation, Vol. 2,” Lisbon Lux Records, Future Plans & More

Julien Manaud has a lot of credits within the music world. He is a composer, a performer, a sound engineer, a producer, an editor, a manager, an A&R person and a solo artist. Manaud first became known in Quebec in 2007 as the guitarist for the band Chinatown. He then pursued a career as a composer for commercials, video games and TV shows for a few years, but quickly realized that he missed album releases and performing at festivals. In 2013, he produced Voyage Love, Le Couleur’s first EP, and founded the record label Lisbon Lux Records to market the EP.

As a solo artist, Adaptation, Vol. 2 is his latest release. Featuring first single “Save Me From Myself,” a cover of a track by Radiant Baby, the EP came out on Lisbon Lux Records on January 15th. Commented Manaud in a prepared statement about that first single: “This track struck me with its dichotomy — an 80s dance sound that accompanies this desperate message, ‘Save Me From Myself,’ which works perfectly with the chosen chord line, filled with great melancholy,” Manaud reflects from when he first heard the Radiant Baby demo.” All tracks on Adaptation, Vol. 2 feature pianist Alexis Dumais.

On January 25, 2021, I had the pleasure of interviewing Julien Manaud via Zoom, as embedded below. We spoke about Adaptation, Vol. 2 but also touched about his multi-faceted career, musical influence, future plans and favorite television shows of the moment. More on Manaud can be found online via www.lisbonluxrecords.com and https://julienmanaud.bandcamp.com.
