Arthur Simeon On Canadian Comedy, Appearing On CBC’s “Humour Resources” & More

Arthur Simeon is a Ugandan-born, Toronto-based comedian who has been performing for a decade all over the world. A truly gifted storyteller, Simeon has been invited to perform at the prestigious Just For Laughs comedy festival 6 times and has appeared on CBC Television, HBO and The Comedy Network. He has 2 full-length stand-up albums to his credit, Born And Raised and The Blackest Panther. And earlier this month he was seen on the CBC’s Humour Resources, an acclaimed television series starring award-winning comic Jon Dore, which he has also written material for.

On February 11, 2021, I had the pleasure of interviewing Arthur Simeon via Zoom, as embedded below. We primarily spoke about his past, present and future as both a comic and writer. But we also touched about Canada’s comedy scene, the genius of the recent CBC Gem series known as Bit Playas, what comedy is like in Uganda, and — perhaps most interesting of all — how he simultaneously learned how to write comedy while discovering the all-time greats of North American stand-up. A funny, interesting, insightful and inspiring gentleman, that Arthur Simeon, to say the very least.
