Who is MAC Dablacksheep?

North Carolina artist Armon Capel also known as MAC Dablacksheep grew up in a family full of basketball players, he naturally developed a competitive nature. The Durham competed in anything he was good at. His parents saw a bright future ahead of him. Sadly, they lived in an environment surrounded by poverty, drugs, and gangs. His father moved him and his two siblings to Fayetteville N.C at the age of 7.

There, he discovered that he had the ability to write music and even hold a melody to a song. Entering talent shows and singing for classmates, he knew he had a gift. Although MAC would sing for anyone who asked, he always had a love and passion for hip hop music. At the age of 11, he wrote his first rhyme. Realizing from peers that his rapping ability was exceptional, he set a goal for himself. That goal is to be the greatest hip hop artist of all time.

In 2003, at the age of 13, due to behavior problems in school his father moved him to Southern Pines, NC. There, he began rapping and singing in school yards and even started recording his own records. At the age of 15, after being cut from his high school basketball team, he decided to do music full time. He committed all of his money, time, and energy into his craft from there on. During a three year span, he released 3 mixtapes; Just ListenLyrical Homicide, and The Real. With each project his buzz grew even more throughout North Carolina. He entered and won, performing competitions, battling competitions, and even got a chance to open for hip hop legends such as, Dougie Fresh, Slick Rick, Whodini, and MC Lyte. From there he started hosting hip hop battle competitions at his high school every week. Things were moving forward for his career.

After he graduated high school in 2008, he moved back to Fayetteville, N.C. There he met and recorded with countless local hip hop and R&B artists. In 2009, he released his first album called, Weapon of Choice. This put him on a higher plateau in the eyes of many.

He dropped 10 projects including street classics such as Alarm Clock, 7/30 hosted by Carolina legend DJ Chuck T, his latest album‍ With these projects came more music videos, performances, connections, and naturally fans. Building his growing fan base referred to as “Blacksheep Banditz” MAC then created the clothing brand PINEology which has been doing very well in sales throughout the east coast. Today, he is still pushing himself to be the best artist he can be.

“Everybody ain’t deserving, so put your work in and earn it/ Just find your peace on this Earth and try to fulfill your purpose.”

With his single “Boomin” taking his career to new heights, he still has a long way to go to reach his ultimate goal of being the G.O.A.T.

Hype: Where you from and how’d you fall in love with hip-hop?

Mac Dablacksheep: Southern Pines, NC. West Side to be exact. Hip hop is a way of life for me. I more fell in love with the process of making music at an early age and wanted to be the best at it.

Hype: Who are your musical inspirations/influences?

Mac Dablacksheep: No hip hop artist influences me. I try to ride my own wave. As far as people that inspire me the list is long. Tupac, Jay-Z, J Cole, Kendrick, Andre 3000, OutKast, Naughty by Nature, and recently Morray simply from making a name for himself worldwide being from the 910 off 1 song. I think that’s incredible and I’m still trying to create my own formula to do something similar. Work smarter.

Hype: What separates you from other artist? Describe yourself in one word.

Mac Dablacksheep: Pound for pound, bar far bar, I’m the best to ever bless the mic in this rap industry. I’m just waiting on the world to take notice. If I had to choose one word. “GOAT”. That’s just how I feel.

Hype: How’d you get introduced to hip-hop?

Mac Dablacksheep: Being the youngest of my siblings I use to ride around with my sister a lot when she 1st got her license. My dad use to bump Stevie Wonder, Brian McKnight, The Isley Brothers and other classic sounds some the only time I heard hip hop was on the radio which he rarely played on hip hop stations. I remember the 1st time I got to ride wit my sister and she played that raw DMX, Wu Tang clan, Mary J Blidge (she was hip hop in the 90s), Biggie, Tupac and Jay Z. We talking in the 90’s when I wasn’t even allowed to curse. I seen how these cats was living and the type women they’d get off putting words together. At the time I was still hoop dreaming but all I kept thinking was, “Mane, I can do that shit”. So big shouts to big sis for that.

Hype: What does it mean to you to make it out of Fayetteville, NC? What’s success look like to you?

Mac Dablacksheep: I’m from Southern Pines, NC. West side to be exact. I just live in Fayetteville and get a lot of love from the city so I show it back.. but if I make it I’d be the 1st to make it big from my city in this hip hop industry. I’d love to be that symbol to inspire the youth and show them hard work really does pay off. Honestly, success to me is being able to live the life I see fit for me.

Hype: What have you been working moving forward from 2020?

Mac Dablacksheep: I’m not dropping a project anytime soon so I’ve been dropping singles consistently. Most recently my newest single “I look good” ft. FLYNGZLPHNT that’s getting good reviews and starting to pick up steam. I’ve dropped a project every year for the past 14 years. I’m trying to work smarter these days.

Hype: What message do you want to deliver to fans with your music?

Mac Dablacksheep: Tell your story how you see fit just make sure your talk matches your walk. No matter what, don’t let anyone dictate your truth. My music is just a reflection of my truth over dope instrumentation.

Hype: Which artists/producer would you like to work in the future?

Mac Dablacksheep: I’m not interested in working with many hip hop artist these days to be honest. If I do, I want it to be a genuine interest with both parties. I’d love to work with Jay Z, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Dababy, Young Jeezy, 2 Chainz, Boogie, Big Krit, etc. These days I’m more interested in working with singers like Ari Lenox, Summer Walker, Brent Faiyaz, Jill Scott, Bruno Marz, etc. As far as producers, I’d love to work with Pharrell, Just Blaze, Justice League, Scott Storch, Juicy J, Rick Ruban, the list is endless.

Hype: What’s more important the fame or legacy?

Mac Dablacksheep: Legacy. Fame ain’t sh*t but clout.

What’s next for you?

Mac Dablacksheep: Gaining the world hopefully. Time will tell.
