0Tony & Jimmy Garoppolo On The Need For Skilled Workers, SkillsUSA, Music, TV & More
A recent study conducted by Klein Tools and The Accelerate Group analyzed the continued increase in the trade workforce gap and the long-term impacts on the United States’ ability to achieve a clean-energy future while maintaining its electrical power systems and equipment. To reverse this workforce gap, between 107,000 and 224,000 new electrician and line worker apprentices must be trained before 2030. SkillsUSA has partnered with Klein Tools to bring National Signing Day to students across the country, encourage more people to enter skilled trade professions and raise awareness about the need to reverse the workforce gap across the United States Of America.
Retired career-electrician — who worked for 40 years in the Chicagoland area — Tony Garoppolo is dedicated to helping more people understand the growing demand for skilled trade professionals and how vital these careers and future workers are to our economy. He played high school football in Franklin Park, Illinois and taught son Jimmy about football at a young age. That son Jimmy is indeed Jimmy Garoppolo, star NFL quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, who took the team to the Super Bowl in 2020. Along with his father, Jimmy has supported SkillsUSA’s National Signing Day since its inaugural event in 2019, continuing a streak of on-going support for the cause.
On May 4, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Tony and Jimmy Garoppolo via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond SkillsUSA’s National Signing Day and its overall related cause, we also talked music and television. More on the Garoppolos can be found online here, here, here and here.
