Les Twins: No Limitations

First things first, please introduce for me Les Twins…

Hi I’m Larry and I’m Laurent, and WE are Les Twins!

Let’s hop right into this debut single, “Stranger” — Tell me about this particular track; how did it even come to fruition?

Larry: A lot of people may not know this, but we have been working on music for over 10 years now. Any free time we had in between our hectic schedule, we would be in the studio; all over the world, with different producers, in different cities, any chance we had, we were creating and working on finding our sound.

Laurent: Fast-forward to 1.5 years ago, right after the first quarantine lifted in Paris, we went down to Marseille with the whole music team and began to create.

Larry: Full trust in the producer and in ourselves. When you are in a studio working with people who are all on the same wave length or frequency , even when there are disagreements, they are always resolved and the end product is a masterpiece.

Reflecting, tell me your whole inception into music — When did you all first become interested in it? And, how did it all begin for Les Twins?

Larry: I’m sorry, I don’t really understand the question. When did we first become interested in it? Music? Music is in our DNA. We had it running through our veins from the moment we were born.

Laurent: It started as soon as we came out of the womb; everything we have ever done involves music. We ARE music in physical form.

Now you all are natives of Sarcelles, France, correct? So growing up overseas, who all did / do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?

Larry :Hard question to answer, my strongest musical influence is evolution. So, basically, any artist or producer who constantly evolves their art and themselves.

Laurent: There are quite a few artists that come to mind, but to name a few that the whole world is familiar with…for sure Dr. Dre, Michael Jackson and Timbaland.

That said, how do you all classify your overall sound and / or style?

Laurent: You can’t put our sound or style into a box or categorize it under any genre. Our music is a lot like our dance…it’s ‘Les Twins Style,’ so it is everything.

Larry: Laurent is right, it doesn’t fit into any category that exists, nor would we even really want it to. Maybe we can create a new category…performance. Our music is Performance music; we make it to not only for you to feel involved with the sound, but to be transported with the visuals and completely blown away by the live performance.

The masses first became familiar with you all through your impressive and unique dancing techniques; take me through this transition into music — Was that always a part of the “bigger picture” plan?

Larry :I don’t think you can plan what is destined, it simply unfolds as it should. Even with our dancing, if you have seen any of our performances the music is always altered. We have always remixed it to match our performance. So after years of remixing music and helping others create music, the next natural step was to create our own. I also have to give credit to a lot of Beyoncé’s team for really igniting the spark in me. The Mamas [Beyoncé’s vocalists], Derek [Beyoncé’s music director], Cora [Beyoncé’s drummer], Omar [Jay-Z’s team] for always pushing me and motivating me to realize my destiny of creating music for myself, creating my own sound.

Switching gears here…

Longevity, what do you all attribute yours to?

Passion! We love what we do. We live for what we do. When you follow your passion, no matter what that passion might be, success is inevitable.

What do you all want people to get from your music?

Larry :We want people to get excited about the music, about coming to see the live shows…we want to make the world dance. We want to create a performance the world has never seen before.

Laurent: Or heard before! We want to bring the music to life. You will hear music like you have never heard it before.

On a more serious note, are you all happy with the current state of music?

Laurent: Interesting question…let me try to explain this correctly because I don’t want to insult anyone’s craft or taste in music. Whether it’s today, 30 years ago, 50 years ago, or 10 years from now, you can’t necessarily classify music as good or bad, because what sounds horrible for one person might be someone else’s favorite sound. With that being said, I believe a lot of artists today and in the recent past have been redirected from their true craft or art in order to sell records or follow whatever trend brings in the money. If an artist is left to create without the pressure or if their sound will sell or if their music will be accepted, only then do you get to feel the artist’s true essence in the music.

Larry: To answer your question, no we aren’t extremely happy with the majority or music today, or the current state of music in general, because the authenticity and originality is gone. Too many people are conforming to what is popular instead of sticking with their craft and believing in it the way they should. We need to bring back music that unifies the masses. Something that makes everyone want to move. No matter what language you speak or where you were born, music should connect people not divide.

Do you all have any other outside / additional aspirations, maybe even completely away from entertainment?

Laurent: Yes, of course.

Larry: Too many to name. Some we don’t even know about yet. New mountains to climb, new dreams, new passions emerge everyday. There is no limit or end to bringing our dreams to life.

Laurent: Every night is a chance to have a new dream and every day is the time gifted to us to bring it to reality.

To date, what has been your greatest career achievement(s), at least thus far anyway?

Laurent: Oh, wow, we have to pick one?! There are so many incredible career achievements…this is a very tough question to answer. But I think everyone knows the answer to this, “Beyoncé!”

Larry: Yes, for sure, we have to say Beyoncé! Being on stage and performing alongside a living legend and one of today’s best performers is something that changes you forever and that you never forget.

Laurent: It’s something you carry with you for the rest of your life. It sets the bar high – REAL HIGH – for all other career achievements.

How do you surpass the highest of achievements?

Larry: We will show you. We have been blessed and we will never take any of these blessings and achievements for granted. We have to keep climbing to make every single person that ever believed in us proud.

Finally, what’s next for Les Twins?

Everything! Everything is next for us. When you turn on your radio, you will hear us. When you turn on your TV or go to watch a movie, you will see us. When you take a sip of your favorite drink, you will feel us When you go shopping for the latest trend, you will wear us. We want to touch everything and everyone with our craft / art.

Is there anything I left out, or just plain forgot to mention?

We can’t wait for the world to see what we have in store. Not just in music, but in every aspect of our career. We are on this earth to shake things up in a good way…So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. See you soon!
