Mike Anthony from Mobile, Alabama is the MA Music CEO Mike Anthony strives to build his own lane one step at a time. The Mobile, Ala. native and manages rising Alabama artist Yung Bleu. At an early age, Mike grew up listening to Old School R&B and Soul Music, but had no idea that it would lead him into one of the most important roles in the music industry.
“What might work for one artist might not work for another, so you have to learn as you go and continue to learn,” as he told OneWest.
The Hype Magazine had a chance to talk to Mike Anthony as he discusses his management experience, entrepreneurship, and his home state of Alabama.
Hype: Where are you from and when did you first fall in love with hip-hop?
Mike Anthony: I’m from Mobile Alabama. I felt in love with music when I was six years old i used to sit in front of the radio and just listen to all type of music a lot of oldies. Ever since Then I just had a passion for music.
Hype: Who are your role models and influences?
Mike Anthony: The only role model I had growing up was my mom. everybody else was just a lesson in life.
Hype: When did you first decide that you wanted to pursue music as a manager?
Mike Anthony: You know whats crazy, I really never had dreamed about being in the music business. I just had an ear for music and when I heard Bleu and coming from Alabama. It was just only right to support him as an artist.
Hype: When did you first decide that you wanted to pursue music as a manager?
Mike Anthony: Management in my own words is trust and Loyalty. If you don’t have those then management don’t even exist.
Hype: What’s the relationship like for you and Yung Bleu and what has he taught you about your craft?
Mike Anthony: Me and Bleu relationship We family first Then it’s business. Me and Bleu relationship is kind of different I don’t think it’ll never be another Artist managed relationship like that. And I say that because Bleu really taught me a lot about the music business I learned a lot from Bleu. Bleu had a little situation before me so he was always familiar with the business
Hype: Who lasts longer the coach or the player?
Mike Anthony: The best advice I receive Being a entrepreneur is to pay the IRS.
Hype: Who lasts longer the coach or the player?
Mike Anthony: I feel like a coach last longer. But without no coach you got no player and without a player you got no coach. They always pick a coach before they pick a player so I mean you got to have somebody to teach the players.
Hype: What’s next for you?
Mike Anthony: What’s next for me I really don’t know I just know more Success more success staying focused and keeping God first.
