0Live Sessions With STARZ Executive Producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson Discussing Starz New Original Series, ‘BMF’
Hip-Hop Mogul and STARZ Executive Producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is one-of-a-kind when it comes to bringing street stories to life. While teaching proverbs of sacrifice, betrayal, honor, and loyalty 50 Cent’s eyes remain on the prize.
He brings together an urban legend in the world of hip-hop following the season finale of STARZ franchise anthology, Power Book Three: Raising Kanan. STARZ and Jackson welcomed the latest addition the family with the new original series BMF, inspired by the true story of two brothers, Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory (Demetrius Flenory, Jr.) and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory (Da’Vinchi), from the inner-city streets of southwest Detroit in the late 1980’s, who fostered the most prominent drug trafficking organization in the U.S.
The eight episode series explores the start of two brothers from the Motor City, their family dynamics, and their relationship with the community in an authentic manner.
“We had to go back to the origin story, so they can see the innocence of the choices, right. Like when you grow up in the environment where the biggest restraint is a financial restraint, that path looks like financial freedom, bro. The middle America may not be able to comprehend that but that is the reason people may have had that option or took that choice.” 50 Cent said in a Live Sessions with Hype Magazine.
” The circumstances they came up under, it’s harder to work that way. It’s tough to get people to agree on anything, that’s why music feels like magic. I want them to see the family drama in every story that got created from Power to Raising Kanan and now into BMF at this point.
“It’s two brothers, when you see the traditional story when the younger brother look at his older brother and he’s going in the same direction regardless of what he says. Then you see the internal struggle and its almost a spiritual also because they were raised Christian and that has no nationality and cuts through the color lines right there.
Understanding the conflict of doing something against of your religion, and your mom and pops is struggling with maybe we gotta get rid of Meech before he damages Terry. When the viewers get a chance to check it out it will resonate with them,” he says.
The Hype Magazine had the opportunity to catch up with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson about the new 8-part series. Check out the Live Sessions above.
BMF will resume with episode two starting this Sunday, October 3 at 10pm/9cst .
