Lisa S. Johnson On Her New Book “Immortal Axes,” Las Vegas, Guitars, Van Halen & More

Lisa S. Johnson’s debut book as an author was 108 Rock Star Guitars. A critically-acclaimed collection of beautifully-shot guitar photos, 108 Rock Star Guitars featured the legendary instruments of more than 150 rock icons, including Eric Clapton, Lou Reed, Billy Gibbons, Steve Miller, Mick Ronson, Willie Nelson and Randy Bachman. Immortal Axes is Johnson’s latest book and it raises the bar even further, spotlighting instruments by B.B. King, Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix. Each intimate photograph by Johnson is accompanied by a touch of musical history, an anecdote and/or personal storytelling moment. In turn, this visually-stunning book is a must-have for guitar lovers alike.

In turn, over the past 2 decades, Lisa S. Johnson has photographed more than 200 one-of-a-kind guitars, perhaps more than any other photographer in the history of music. Her passion for the art and design of the guitar is unparalleled. Some of her acclaimed guitar images were displayed at the Wire & Wood: Designing Iconic Guitars exhibit at Atlanta’s vibrant Midtown Arts Corridor in 2019.

On October 7, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Lisa S. Johnson via Zoom, as embedded below. More on Johnson and Immortal Axes can be found by clicking here, here and here.
