Nashville Pussy’s Ruyter Suys On The New “Eaten Alive” Album, Nazareth, Van Halen & More

Coming hot off of its critically-acclaimed 7th studio album Pleased To Eat You, the GRAMMY-nominated Nashville Pussy — a group which not everyone realizes was named after stage banter on a Ted Nugent live album — returns with Eaten Alive. A ferocious hell ride of a live double LP that is proof-positive that the band is one of the best live acts you will see these days, Eaten Alive was recorded in the UK. In turn, this is arguably the quartet’s equivalent of The Who’s Live At Leeds or Motorhead’s No Sleep Til Hammersmith. Said the band’s singer Blaine Cartwright in a hilarious-yet-true prepared statement: “This is the album that our fans have drunkenly demanded for years.”

The first single released from Eaten Alive — which is due out on December 24, 2021 in the CD and digital formats, and on vinyl on January 14, 2022 via Slinging Pig Records — was “Pillbilly Blues.” The track not only shows off the undeniable charisma of Blaine Cartwright as frontman and leader of the racket, yet also the thunderous rhythm section of bassist Bonnie Buitrago and hard hitting drummer Ben Thomas and the top-notch guitar licks of Ruyter Suys; That Metal Show once dubbed Suys “one of the top female performers of all time” and I am not going to dispute that one. Eaten Alive aside, Suys recently worked on a Nazareth tribute album called Heirs Of The Dog with The Supersuckers’ Eddie Spaghetti, while Cartwright contributed a recording of “Hair Of The Dog” to the same compilation.

On November 24, 2021, I had the pleasure of interviewing Ruyter Suys again; my first experience of speaking with Suys was actually close to 20 years ago as a questionably-competent 18 or 19-year-old. Beyond Eaten Alive, we talked about life during COVID-19, future misoca; plans, Van Halen and hobbies away from music. More on Suys and associates can be found by clicking here, here and here.
