0T. Murph On The New Season Of Hulu’s “Woke,” Being On BET’s “ComicView,” Kanye West & More
In Woke, cartoonist Keef Knight is now a popular activist on the rise, but he is facing a world where “woke” has become big business. Can Keef and his friends bring about real change, or is it just about the dollar$? And can Keef navigate this new world without destroying what he’s become? Inspired by the life and work of artist Keith Knight, Woke brilliantly satirizes “Black nerd” and activist culture.
A Hulu Original series, Woke stars Lamorne Morris, Blake Anderson, T. Murph, Sasheer Zamata and JB Smoove. It was developed by Marshall Todd and Keith Knight, and its co-creators also serve as executive producers alongside Anthony King, Maurice “Mo” Marable, Richie Schwartz, John Will, Will Gluck, and Eric Christian Olsen. The comedy is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television and ABC Signature. It returns to Hulu for its second season on April 8, 2022 with 8 new episodes.
On March 31, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with T. Murph via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond Woke, T. Murph and I spoke about his early days as a comic, why he still lives in Illinois, future career plans and who his all-time favorite musical artist is. More on T. Murph — who is regularly on the road as a stand-up headliner — and Woke can be found online by clicking here, here and here.
