0A Look At The New Space Fight Album “Do You Dream In The Daylight” With Singer Spen Miles
Space Fight was formed by 3 friends — 2 Brits and 1 American — in a London pub over a pint back in 2010. Not long after, the group appeared at the Camden Crawl festival, toured the UK a few times, were featured on BBC6 Music, and signed a record deal for its debut LP release in 2013. Space Fight’s sound has been described as “American East Coast pop… taken to the London stages with a blueprint to make something that resounds like the Atlantic Ocean’s reflection of the shining galaxies above.”
Last month, Space Fight — as comprised of frontman Spen Miles, drummer Kenny Bernard (Ra Ra Riot) and bassist Mat Santos (Ra Ra Riot) — announced that they were putting their sophomore LP out this summer. Along with that came the announcement of the music video for “Do You Dream In The Daylight,” the second single from the upcoming album of the same name. Written during the uncertain early days of the pandemic, it is a dreamy, dark, yet somehow hopeful tune, with swirling synths and guitar riffs that pull the listener into its world. The song was mixed by Andrew Maury (Lizzo, Shawn Mendes), and was produced by Zach Abramson and Space Fight. The artwork for the single was made by legendary Portland, Oregon artist Pop Wonder. Previously, Space Fight had issued a video for “Fool For Me,” as made with black and white footage from public domain films selected and edited by Miles.
Album and music video release aside, Space Fight will be playing New York City’s Mercury Lounge on June 22, 2022. Last week I caught up with Spen Miles via Zoom to learn more about all things Space Fight, but unfortunately, the Zoom gods were not kind to that recording. In place of that video interview, below, please find several embedded links showing off the greatest that is Space Fight.
