Dax: Brace For Impact

Let’s hop right into this single / video, “Dear Alcohol” — Tell me about this particular track; how did it even come to fruition?

Was in the studio and Lex Nour played the beat. Once he did, I immediately said, “I got wasted ‘cause I didn’t want to deal with myself tonight,” then the rest just poured out.

Lyrically, when you sit down to pen your rhymes where do you draw inspiration from?

Usually I just go with whatever comes to mind, but most of those things end up consciously or subconsciously coming from my life experiences and what’s going on around me.

Reflecting, tell me your whole inception into music — When did you become interested in it? And, how did it all begin for you, Dax?

I started with poetry as a junior in college when I was playing basketball and an overnight janitor, and that slowly transformed into music. I was 22 when I started, and it all began with me writing a poem on the way to a basketball game.

Now you’re a native of Ottowa, Canada, by way of Los Angeles, CA, correct? So growing up in the ‘Great White North,’ who all did / do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?

Yes, from Ottawa, but don’t live in Los Angeles. Am out there a lot though. My favorite Canadian artist growing up was Drake. I was really only focused on basketball though, so my influences were all athletes.

In having said that, how do you classify your overall sound and / or style?

I call my style and sound IMPACT!

Switching gears here…

To date, what has been your greatest career moment(s), at least thus far anyway?

The day I wrote “Dear God” was probably the greatest moment. It was the first time in my life that I knew I had done something that would last forever.

What’s an average day like for you?

Wake up, brush my teeth, work out, work on music and the process of either creating it or getting it to the people, eat then sleep. Sometimes I’ll work out twice, and then factor obviously performances, interviews, and all that fun stuff in there.

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans…

I just go through my DM’s and respond to a bunch as I get time throughout the day, along with most other social media apps. I enjoy replying most via DM’s and Facebook. I honestly just enjoy it.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?

Favorite part is seeing how the music and videos impact the people. Least favorite part is how people start to slowly see you differently and forget you’re still human.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Spend time building with those who f*ck with you rather than time trying to convince those who don’t to start.

Lastly, what’s next for you, Dax?

MORE IMPACT! MORE VISUALS! MORE CONNECTING WITH THE PEOPLE! MORE GIVING BACK! MORE CHARITY WORK! MORE IMPACT, IMPACT, IMPACT! 🙂

Is there anything I left out, or just plain forgot to mention?

And, any “closing” thought(s) for our readers?

GOD IS GOOD! Don’t forget to pray.
