J3X: On The Rise

Please introduce for me the members of J3X…

Jean Blanca [JB], Jodie Jay and Junie.

Let’s hop right into this debut single, “Outside,” featuring LightSkinKeisha — Tell me about this particular track; how did it come to fruition?

”Outside” was made to be a summer anthem. Something you can get up and get out to!

Reflecting, tell me y’all’s whole inception into music — When did you all first become interested in it? And, how did it all begin for J3X?

We’ve been interested in music since we were first able to understand it at a very young age. J3X has been J3X since Jean Blanca was 11 and Jodie Jay and Junie were 9. We just didn’t have a name!

Now y’all are natives of Virginia, correct? So growing up in ‘Old Dominion,’ who all did / do you all consider to be your strongest musical influences?

We know for a fact that Pharrell, Timbaland, Missy Elliott and Chris Brown are some DOPE artists from the Virginia area.

Now from an individual standpoint, what do each of you bring to the table both personality-wise and creatively?

Jodie Jay: “I bring fun and festivities!”

Junie: “I bring fashion and style.”

Jean Blanca [JB]: “I bring energy and a sense of happiness.”

Where does y’all’s moniker originally derive from?

J3X stands for the 1st letter in all 3 of our names…so, J 3 times.

What particular string of events actually led to your current inking to / with Dogface Records?

Our stepfather was recognized first for his genius music producing. Then, Dogface found out our mother is a singer / songwriter and artist. Our mother then introduced Dogface to the middle child, Jodie Jay, and Jo said, “You know I have 2 sisters, right?” That’s how it all began!

Switching gears here…

Longevity, what do you all feel will be the ultimate key to y’all’s longstanding success?

Consistency. No doubt.

What do you all want people to get from your music?

We want our supporters to be able to relate to us and our lives and really, truly understand what we’re saying. We want to INFLUENCE, not poison, the music industry and the world.

On a more serious note, are you all happy with the current state of R&B?

We are genuinely impressed by all of the sounds and ways of music. All of the new styles are hot and easy to bump to. We applaud all R&B artists.

Do you all have any other outside / additional aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

Junie would love to model. She has a passion for fashion; the looks, the rhythm and the drive for it. Jean Blanca [JB] would love to continue her business as a hair stylist.

One track of y’all’s that you think defines you all and why?

We honestly can’t answer this with any track we have so far because we’re new and barely have a variety of music of our own to choose from. “Outside” definitely shows our spontaneous and fun side!

Finally, what’s next for J3X?

Our next project is in the works, and we plan on going on tour soon…hopefully.
