Yilmaz Bora is on Building an Ethical Infrastructure for Investing in Alternative Proteins

Yilmaz Bora knows the potential of alternative proteins to revolutionize the way we feed the world, but he also knows that achieving this goal will take more than money and R&D alone. That’s why he founded Ace Ventures, an investment firm focused on funding startups that are actively changing the world through their innovative products. I spoke with Bora about what it’s like to build an ethical investing infrastructure and how he intends to scale up Ace Ventures mission. Here’s what he had to say

An interview with Ace Ventures founder Yilmaz Bora

Having been born in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1993, his parents both hold law degrees.

Along with his interest in animal welfare, Ace, his French Bulldog, influenced him three years ago to become vegan. He found that He could not have the company He wanted to work for as a vegetarian and saw no future in investing as one. It was when He started Primeval Foods(www.primeval foods.co)  that things changed.

How Ace Ventures comes up

In 2020, after seeing the lack of progress being made in animal welfare through activism, Yilmaz Bora decided to take a different approach. They launched Ace Ventures, a venture capital firm that invests in early-stage alternative protein startups.  Ace Ventures is also working to build an ethical infrastructure for alternative protein investing. We want this industry to grow responsibly, said Bora. We’re not trying to disrupt and destroy.

How Primeval Foods Comes in existence

After this experience, He realized that not enough was being done to save these animals, and has begun his  own project worldwide to liberate animals, save the environment, and to create Primeval Foods this year. The Primeval Foods is a lab-grown meat company experimenting with different animal meat such as lions, tigers, and many other meat eaters. By 2040, at least 50% of traditional livestock will be replaced by cultured meats, reducing land use, water use, emissions of greenhouse gases, and animal cruelty.

As the CEO and founder of Ace Ventures, Yilmaz Bora is well-versed in the ins and outs of the industry. So when he decided to put his money into alternative proteins, he knew he had to do it right. My personal mantra as an investor is ‘know your impact,’ says Bora. When I saw how many people were going vegan or vegetarian, I felt like we needed a sustainable infrastructure for investing in these types of companies. The natural next step was lab grown meat.

The more research I did, the more excited I became about this type of protein because it has such huge potential for saving energy and resources. The only problem with clean meat is that there’s not enough supply yet because so few startups are working on it now. There’s also the question of whether or not consumers will want to eat artificial meats once they’re available. But Bora isn’t worried: I think those objections will go away when they taste what you can make with this technology–it tastes just like meat!
