Erika Schlick Explains Why Celebrities Use Health Coaches and How You Can Benefit From One Too

Most of us have likely thought about how much easier it would be to keep on track with our health and wellness if we had all the money, time, and resources many celebrities do. Personal trainers, private chefs, therapists, life coaches, and everything in between would certainly help make anyone’s health goals feel a lot more tangible. But while the A-listers might have a whole team of people to help them out, the starting point — no matter who you are — is always the same.

Embarking on any new health journey means planning all of the individual steps. What are your goals? What will your exercise regime look like? What kind of diet will you stick to? How can you look after your mind better? How will this align with your other needs and responsibilities?

“It’s all a little overwhelming,” says certified health coach Erika Schlick. “That’s why celebrities will use health coaches to bring it all together, but you definitely don’t have to be a world-famous star to benefit from one.”

What is a health coach?

“In a nutshell, a health coach acts as a supportive mentor to clients who need a little help and guidance with reaching their health and wellness goals,” Schlick explains. Essentially, it’s someone who can help you identify, establish, set, and achieve your personal health goals — whatever they might be.

Schlick adds that coaches can be especially beneficial for people who have experienced a chronic health condition. “Either way,” she adds, “the role of a health coach is to provide personalized, one-on-one encouragement and support, from finding the right workout routine to pinpointing lifestyle habits that will bring them closer to their goals.”

Why do celebrities use health coaches?

While it’s true that celebrities have the means to financially invest a lot more in their health and wellness than most, there’s also a good reason why many of them use health coaches, too. “Celebrity lifestyles, though comfortable and often luxurious, aren’t the most routine-friendly,” explains Schlick. “Whether it’s long hours on movie sets, travel days, or new diets in different countries, it actually requires a lot more discipline to maintain your health and fitness during this time than you might think.”

For this reason, using a coach is the only way to stay on track amidst the chaos for some. The services can range from helping with the catering logistics, crafting travel-friendly workouts, scheduling and timetable organization for meal times and exercise, forming a mental wellness routine to decompress or balance out long periods spent on the road, and more. “It may initially sound like a little much, but we all have something to learn from this mindset,” Schlick says.

How a health coach can help you

A health coach isn’t just a personal trainer who tells you how many reps and sets of which exercises you need to be doing — they look at the full picture. “For the same reason that celebrities seek out coaches to help them build a health and wellness routine around their particular lifestyle, one can also help you with your goals and personal requirements,” Schlick says.

Those requirements take factors such as your work hours, family responsibilities, mental health issues, and previous conditions into account. Although all of this information would be a lot to dump on one specific type of trainer, the job of a health coach is to unpick all of this and find a way to integrate all the elements into a personalized plan.

“A key reason why so many of us do not keep up with health plans is that they’re either not tailored for us, or simply not suitable for our lifestyle,” Schlick says. “Whether you want to clean up your diet, finally go gluten-free, recover from an autoimmune disease, embark on a more rigorous exercise routine, or simply get your endorphins rushing, a health coach takes a 360-degree approach to help you get there.”
