This year, in addition to distributing a live red carpet pre-show on Twitter, for the first time, fans had the opportunity to slide into @MTV’s DMs to vote for the Best New Artist category, presented by Taco Bell. By sending a Direct Message to @MTV, fans could vote and deal their top pick in an interactive experience. Twitter is voting decided this year’s Best New Artist, and the prize went to Khalid (@thegreatkhalid).
