DC’s Fong Sai U gives straight talk on his music and adulteration of rap

Every so often, voices arise that stand out because of their fearless dedication to putting things being as they should be. These voices send out the messages, which serve as an alarm clock thrown in the graveyard to wake the dead. Hailing from our nation’s capitol, Fong Sai U, is no stranger to the culture of telling a story which can and often does, move nations.

Flying high on the success of his most recent album release The Last Ronin where he pulled hole cards on a major level, Fong Sai U has become one of those voices gaining major respect as an MC, not just a rapper. The album is 18 joints that go for the jugular, taking no prisoners and targeting posers straight up. Ronin is NOT a diss collection, it’s a truth telling session…

We caught up with Fong Sai U and got him to weigh in on a few things:

You came to the forefront by addressing a couple of situations within the Hip-Hop industry that could have stayed out of the public eye. What made you so vocal?

Well, both of those are old now but I speak my mind and I think when I spoke on Troy Ave at that time he was going at Kendrick and Kanye.  Troy Ave going at Capital Steez pissed me off,may he rest in peace you should never speak on a dead man. The Joey badass diss he did was the worst diss record I heard in my life and as far as Meek Mill goes, that was back in October when he was talking crazy on the gram and going at Wale. I’m from DC so I had to step up for my city…it’s dead and over.

Your thoughts on the “State of Rap”?

Man, it’s like cats are turning into women, cats went from big chains, to small choker joints, dying their hair and wearing dresses. Auto tune has taken over.

So you’ve hit on problematic issues in the Hip-Hop community…what is your proposed solution?

There needs to be order, you have cats doing anything under the sun we need the OGs to start teaching instead trying to get a feature from a new cat with tights on.

Who should we be looking out for from the DMV?

DC has some dope MC’s, you have Black Indian, Infinite Loop which was like a squad I once belonged to with a gang of dope MC’s. Grizz and Boogie Man Ghost are making noise as well.

What’s up in the near future for Fong Sai U

I’m dropping my video for Times Up soon and working on “FONGSAIACUS” which is my next album. Also considering The C.Porter album or League of Shadows project, I don’t know yet but just working.
