Meet Indie-Alt-Electronic Band Air Traffic Controller

Air Traffic controller is an indie-Alt-Electronic Band who just released their second album titled “Echo Papa.” It has a raw sound with a stonewashed vibe that grooves. Nothing illustrates this more than their single “After Party,” a song that reminds their listeners that while they can’t undo the past, they have the power to change the future. The Boston based band made up of Dave Munro, Casey Sullivan, Steve Scott, Adam Salameh and Adrian Aiello, have been very busy since releasing their first album in 2016, called “Black Box.” The single “The House” won three Independent Music Awards, several Boston Music Awards nominations (and one win), and more. They are off to a good start and keep rolling out great tunes as The Hype Magazine took notice to this incredible band.

Air Traffic Controller’s recent single “After Party” is a metaphor that speaks to the strange political climate the Nation currently faces.  “We’ve never been a band that sings about anything historical but we just felt like it’s something that we just really wanted to capitalize and decided to do it in a not to convoluted way,” says Dave Munro. It’s subtle and sets a tone of perseverance and awareness in our current political climate. The song also jams, presenting a party atmosphere. It is another tune that is sure to be another favorite addition to your playlist.

You have a new single called “After Party,” what can you tell me about it?

We are on our way to shoot the new video for it now. The video is pretty bizarre! It’s kind of like Spider Man meets “Point Break” except Spider Man is a five-year-old kid. Instead of bank robbers, the masked robbers are stealing presents from little kids’ birthday parties and Spider Man is there to save the day! Some of the big scenes we have been doing now is like an army of kids that wind up with the victory.

There were a ton of people involved. We worked with the director Michael Parks Randa who did another video for us and fits very well. It was our video for “The House” which was nominated for a bunch of awards. It won a bunch of awards too! We are pretty excited about finishing this one and I think people are going to kind of get a while new take on the song because the song really isn’t about Spider Man. It will be the first video off the album and I hope to make a few more.

How do you think this album differs from your last album “Black Box”?

Well we were sort of on the same path with “Black Box.” We wanted to get something out as soon as possible. We were just eager to get more material out and finish these songs. They weren’t rushed in the making but we definitely didn’t want to wait another year or so to get back in the studio. It just felt complete. I think the difference is that we had been touring “Black Box” for about a year before it came out.  Two of the guys that we toured with weren’t there to help us make that record.

They brought so much to those songs on the road and on the stage. I was excited to see what they were going to do with new material. We got to do a lot of writing together and that was exciting. One track in particular had sort of a blues element to it – it was far from our territory! That is just one example of something that those guys brought to the table and what makes this record different. Just two other personalities that were wild, crazy and enthusiastic and I think this album reflects that.

Do you guys have any more tour dates set?

We just got off tour like a month ago and we released the record the last week of our tour. Since then, we have been planning another tour. We are going to try to get out there this Fall. We are looking all over the map right now. We have the West coast route planned and an East coast route planned, but we are probably just going to start by just doing one side of the country and then a break in-between for a rest. We would also like to cover a lot of ground in the Mid-West. We could be anywhere in the country. We haven’t confirmed yet. Everyone who wants to see us should just keep their fingers crossed that we picked their side of the country first! We are going to keep touring in 2018, and we’ve done a lot of touring over the past year or two so I expect more of that.

Keep up to date with Air Traffic Controller
