Kayobe ‘Nevermore’ EP
Backstory: Kayobe’s new 4 song EP “Nevermore” is a collaboration with Toronto rapper Rashid St. James. The collaboration is a marriage between Kayobe’s electronic production and Rashid St. James’ unique poetic lyricism. The result is a hip hop project that draws on inspiration from artists like Kaytranada, GoldLink, Kid Cudi, and Snakehips yet has its own refreshing and unique feel.
A resident of Downtown Toronto, Rashid St. James is dynamic young artist relatively new to the Toronto hip-hop scene, but has quickly made his presence. St. James utilizes a blend of poetic appeal and grime style of rap that has gained popularity within the Toronto Underground scene. Rashid’s poetic descriptive lyricism, witty punch lines and catchy melodies that forces him to stand out and illustrate tales of love, pain and struggles to find belonging.
This project is a follow up to Kayobe’s “Hidden” EP which was released in January 2018
“Rashid and I got linked up by a friend who thought it would be good for us to work together, especially as I had started to branch out into producing more hip hop beats. After I then produced a few tracks for Rashid’s project, I showed him a few Kayobe beats I had, and Knock really lit a spark first. He immediately started writing verses on it and we wrote the chorus together, it was a real organic process. I know he was going through some personal journeys that really helped him flow on it too.” – Kayobe
This is an EP with album tendencies…fully constructed and delivered with the utmost care! 5/5 ~ JD
“I wrote the EP during an extremely turbulent emotional time in my life, luckily I was able to connect with Kayobe and channel my emotions and frustrations and record. This entire project was therapy for me.” – Rashid St. James
