Meet Sherrikka Myers, Founder of Every 1 Voice Matters

Sherrikka Myers is the founder of Every 1 Voice Matters, a nonprofit organization that provides community outreach to individuals and families of children who have stuttering issues. In an interview, Myers shared what inspired her to start her nonprofit and the goals for her organization.

Jae Monique: When did you start your nonprofit?

Sherrikka Myers: March 2018.

JM: What inspired you to start a nonprofit?

Myers: I always knew I wanted to do something with kids with stuttering issues, but what really inspired me was overcoming my issues and seeing my grandson stutter and the frustration he has in his face when he wants to speak. I have a hard time getting it out. I knew I had to do something.

JM: Tell me about your nonprofit organization?

Myers: Every 1 Voice Matters is a program designed to help and provide community outreach, education, and support to individuals and families of children who stutter to build proper speech techniques, self-esteem, self-confidence and improve quality of life.

JM: What do you like best with having a nonprofit?

Myers: The fact that I know I will be helping other kids cope with the issues and problems I had to go through growing up stuttering.

JM: What are your overall goals with your company?

Myers: My goal is to help kids that are suffering from stuttering to build self-esteem, self-confidence and to let them know that just because they stutter doesn’t mean that they won’t be able to reach their goals. I want them to know their voice counts as well and they to can do anything they put their mind to do. And also do not limit themselves.

JM: Where do you see Every 1 Voice Matters in the next 5 years?

Myers: Every 1 Voice Matters centers in all 50 states and continues helping those with stuttering and life issues.

JM: Is there anything else you would like to share?

Myers: Yes, I want those who have any type of speech impediments, low self-esteem, no self-confidence, medical issues, deformities or life issues to know through prayer, anything is possible and never underestimate themselves. Always believe in yourself.
