MLW Star Salina De La Renta On Her First Acting Role, Career Goals & Last Words For The Kids

Major League Wrestling is a sports media holding company with a focus on professional wrestling events and programming, digital content and ancillary entertainment. Arguably the fastest growing wrestling league today, MLW’s weekly TV series Major League Wrestling: FUSION airs Friday nights on beIN SPORTS in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico; in other countries FUSION can be streamed on Saturday nights via MLW’s YouTube channel.

MLW features a roster full of high-profile fighters and on-air talent from around the world including Tony Schiavone, The Hart Foundation, “Filthy” Tom Lawlor, Low Ki, LA Park, Pentagon Jr., Rey Fenix, Tommy Dreamer, Salina De La Renta, Rush, Joey Ryan, Kotto Brazil, Shane “Swerve” Strickland, Barrington Hughes, Simon Gotch, Konnan, and Colonel Robert Parker. It is also the parent company of the MLW Radio Network, which is the leading provider of professional wrestling podcasts.

I had the pleasure of speaking with the aforementioned Salina De La Renta, one of MLW’s top stars, and highlights from our phone chat are below. Ms. De La Renta will be part of MLW’s February 2nd show at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, and also looks to be part of other upcoming MLW events in 2019 including those in Chicago (March 3rd) and New York (April 4th and 5th). De La Renta can be followed on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter via @SalinaDeLaRenta.

On her theater background:

“I actually have been acting since I was born, pretty much, because when I was born I was put on-stage to play Baby Jesus. I didn’t have to say anything but you know… (laughs) I started very early because my mom wanted to be a Broadway actor. I guess she raised me the same way that she wanted to be… I started acting at a very young age.”

On whether people are intimidated by her off-screen, based on her character:

“Absolutely, they think I’m going to shank them or something. (laughs)”

On other projects she can talk about:

“Yeah. I’m going to be working with IWC in Denver and they’re taking the majority of my guys. So I’m using Low Ki over there and we’re also taking Ricky [Martinez]. I think a few months after that I’m also going with LA Park. Recently I was told that I’m going to go to Mexico with LA Park, my first time, so I’m very excited about that. Definitely a lot of bookings for me this year, so I’m going to be all over the States. First time in Mexico, and I hope I get to go to Europe or somewhere out there.”

On enjoying the opportunity to be on the road a lot:

“Right now I think I am living my goal, which is to continue to do the MLW shows, adding to it working on the indie scene. I really really love the indies and I want to kind of get big before going huge, if you know what I mean.”

On whether there’s something she wishes that more people knew about her:

“There is something that I really don’t ever share, because I kind of wanted it to be a surprise but I can talk about it… I’ve been working in getting a doctorate degree.. Eventually I can reveal that I’m a doctor when I’ve graduated and just be like, ‘Hey you can call me Dr. De La Renta from now on.’ (laughs)”

On last words for the kids:

“Honestly, follow your dream and forget about people telling you that it doesn’t happen because it does. Whatever plan that they think is going to work, as long as they follow it, it will work in time. Common sense really tells you how to do things, and people don’t really follow that.”
