“Raven’s Home” Star Sky Katz On Upcoming Career Goals & More

Shortly after wowing judges and a national audience alike on America’s Got Talent, Sky Katz was cast as spunky neighbor Tess in Disney Channel’s new series Raven’s Home. Prior to the return of Raven’s Home today for its third season on June 17th, Katz co-headlined a New York City concert with Annie LeBlanc on June 15th. She also released a music video last month for her latest single “Saucy.”

I had the pleasure of speaking with Sky Katz herself by phone in June 2019 — prior to her June 15th gig with LeBlanc — and below are highlights from our interview. More on Katz — including music videos and upcoming live appearances — can be found online via her website, www.skykatzraps.com.

On whether she likes to be thought of as an actress, a rapper or both:

Sky Katz: I like to be thought of as an artist.

On whether she wanted to be on television all along:

Sky Katz: [After America’s Got Talent] I wanted to act as well. And it’s like one thing files into the next. Everything happened so quickly and organically.

On what else she’d like to do besides act and record music, if anything:

Sky Katz: I’d love to go on tour. I love performing. The energy is so different and unique… So a tour, yes, for sure .

On whether she contributes to the beats of her music beyond rapping:

Sky Katz: It depends. The producer sometimes produces the beats, sometimes I’ll be there for the whole process of the song… But I love being there.

On where her ideas often come from:

Sky Katz: Sometimes I look at objects around me and I’ll think of a whole melody or a poem with the quotes… So I get inspired… I like being involved in the writing process.
