Dre of the GRAMMY Award Winning Duo Cool & Dre Talks Stepping Centerstage As An Artist and More

Back story – A movement years in the making, Dre, part of the Grammy-Awarding producer duo Cool & Dre is gearing up this year to finally release his first solo album after decades of making hits for everyone from Jay-Z and Beyoncé to Fat Joe and DJ Khaled.

In the run up to his launch, Dre just dropped another hit record with Fat Joe titled “Pullin” (feat. Lil Wayne).  “Pullin” was not only produced by Cool & Dre, but also featured vocals by Dre. Over a sample of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On,” Joey Crack cooks up a fiery verse, while Dre borrows Wayne’s classic “Phone Home” line: “We are not the same / I am a Martian.” Weezy comes through with some rapid-fire rhymes to finish it off (“I’m from the jungle, not the petting zoo / And you look edible”).  Check out the official video for “Pullin.”

“As Dre states, ‘Pullin’ is just a warm up. It’s Fat Joe in rare form.  It’s the ‘WE ARE NOT THE SAME I AM A MARTIAN’ Lil Wayne in rare form.  It’s the spirit of Marvin Gaye in rare form.  And it’s me finishing what I started years ago…no more breaks.”

Dre is reinventing some serious sounds as he storms into the hip-hop world with his debut solo album.

Making good on the early promise to many of his mentors and collaborators who have been able to see his talent as a solo artist first hand and have long urged him to drop a record of his own, Dre is finally making his move. His solo EP due later this year is 10 years in the making and is a culmination of Dre’s entire career, his life story and everything in between, leading up to the success of Cool & Dre and featuring a taste of what’s to come.  Dre’s success with Cool, making Grammy-Award winning hits with other talent, have long-delayed Dre’s solo career. Following the success on Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s latest album, Dre is finally ready to release his EP.

The Hype Magazine caught up with Dre to get the scoop on his new moves and what’s next for 2019. He let us know some of the projects he and Cool are working on alongside his solo work…including a project with the iconic Fat Joe Tune In!
