MC Lars On His “The Dewey Decibel System” Album With Mega Ran & Finding Success Being DIY

Earlier this year, nerdcore legends Mega Ran and MC Lars teamed up to release a new literary themed collaborative album, The Dewey Decibel System. The 14-track album also features collaborations with Jill Sobule, Bowling For Soup’s Jaret Reddick, YouTube star Dan Bull, nerdcore pioneer MC Frontalot, Mello Music’s Quelle Chris, A$AP Rocky producer Charlie Mumbles, and Akon producer Matt Weiss.

MC Lars is a long-established artist with a career going back about 20 years. Consistently hopping genres and breaking ground as a creative force, MC Lars has hosted two TEDx talks, premiered a song at Carnegie Hall, survived three complete Warped Tours, opened for Snoop Dogg, successfully launched his own label (Horris Records) and collaborated with both “Weird Al” Yankovic and KRS-One.

I had the pleasure of speaking with MC Lars himself by phone in June 2019 — apologies to Lars and team for the delay in getting this interview out into the world — shortly after the release of The Dewey Decibel System. Simply put, few artists you’ll ever interview are as warm or insightful as MC Lars, who you can visit online at www.mclars.com for tour dates and more about his forthcoming LP Finite Jest.
