0ØZWALD’s Jason Wade & Steve Stout On New Album “Born In A State,” Lifehouse, Metal & More
Comprised of Jason Wade (Lifehouse) and Steve Stout (formerly of Lost Beach), Nashville-based ØZWALD doles out everyday wisdom on a welcoming indie-rock platter.
The roots of ØZWALD go back to five years ago when Stout was called in to play guitar on an international Lifehouse tour that would eventually have its U.S. routing canceled. However, a bond began to form between Stout and Wade on the overseas run. Following the tour, Wade needed an engineer to assist him in his California studio — where they both then lived — and he called Stout.
Born In A State is the new album from ØZWALD and it is a stylistic departure from the group’s first record, Sweet Delirium. ØZWALD’s new LP was inspired by Wade and Stout’s Tennessee environment, and these songs tell stories from the perspective of two creatives pondering the value of art and music in a world of likes and follows. It comes across as organic and eccentric yet pleasantly-nostalgic.
As embedded below, I had the pleasure of speaking with both Jason Wade and Steve Stout by phone on January 16, 2020 about Born In A State, musical influences, future Lifehouse plans and more. Additional info related to ØZWALD can be found online at www.soundcloud.com/ozwaldmusic.
