02020 Emmy Contender John Savage On “Seal Team,” “The Deer Hunter,” New York City & More
It’s rare for an actor the caliber of John Savage — primarily known for exquisite turns in iconic films like The Deer Hunter, The Thin Red Line and Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing — to transition to television for a standout role. But when it is a recurring role on a top-rated, critically-lauded series like CBS’ Seal Team, Savage jumped at the opportunity. And now his portrayal of “Emmet Quinn,” the father of devoted Seal Team character “Sonny Quinn” (played by A.J. Buckley), is a leading Emmy contender for the “Guest Actor In A Drama Series” award. The related episodes began airing in April.
Savage was also recently seen in The Last Full Measure with Sebastian Stan, Samuel Jackson and Ed Harris, as released last year. Even more recently, the New York native was cast in the starring role of the hard-nosed judge presiding over the case in a new feature film, domestic abuse drama Finding Nicole, based on the Chris Cuomo-fronted CNN documentary Inside Evil – Until Death Do Us Part. As Savage’s IMdB page will attest, he never stopped working and continues to work nonstop.
I had the pleasure of interviewing John Savage via Zoom on June 25, 2020. The full conversation is embedded below, while more on Savage is online via www.twitter.com/realjohnsavage.
