0All Elite Wrestling’s Tony Khan On How AEW Is Regularly Able To Keep Its Audience Surprised
AEW is a new professional wrestling league headlined by Cody, Chris Jericho, The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson), Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, Jon Moxley, Mr. Brodie Lee, Matt Hardy, MJF, Nyla Rose, Hikaru Shida and Brandi Rhodes. For the first time in many years, AEW is offering an alternative to mainstream wrestling, with a growing roster of world-class male and female wrestlers that is injecting new spirit, freshness and energy to the industry. The inaugural event under the AEW banner was the sold-out “Double Or Nothing” PPV in Las Vegas’s MGM Grand Garden Arena in May 2019.
This weekend, on September 5th, AEW will be presenting its All Out pay-per-view event. The current holder of AEW’s highly-priced Dynamite Diamond Ring, Maxwell Jacob Friedman — MJF, for short — is set to wrestle in the main event of All Out against World Champion Jon Moxley. The event will also feature the aforementioned Chris Jericho, Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, Hikaru Shida and Mr. Brodie Lee in action, including the first ever “Mimosa Mayhem Match.”
In support of All Out, AEW CEO and President Tony Khan hosted a call on September 3, 2020 with select media representatives. I had the pleasure of being on said call and had one of my question asked to Khan, as embedded below, about how AEW has managed to keep its fans surprised so regularly while other wrestling companies have struggled with that; as reference, news regularly leaks from other wrestling companies about which unexpected talent was spotted “backstage.” More on All Out and AEW can be found via www.allelitewrestling.com and www.twitter.com/AEWrestling.
