Dylan Taylor & Hippie Speedball – Don’t Think Twice

Dylan Taylor and Hippie Speedball offer trio of new rock songs, starting with hot new single ‘Don’t Think Twice’

NASHVILLE, TN – Dylan Taylor isn’t your typical rocker chick. Yes, she’s seen her fair share of hardships in life, and yes she has the tried-and-true raspy-ness in her voice that puts her in the conversation with legends like Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin. But her music and the stories she tells through her lyrics are original and unlike anything else out there today. And when paired with the musical mastery of her band Hippie Speedball, the end result is something truly one-of-a-kind.

That originality is put on full display with three new singles from the band. The first is a song called “Don’t Think Twice” which is already available across all streaming platforms. It starts with an ambient intro that features a distorted electric guitar from Daniel DeMonico, one of Taylor’s long time collaborators and friends. His awesome guitar work makes way for Taylor’s ethereal vocals, immediately evocative of Stevie Nicks in her heyday. “Don’t Think Twice” has a throwback kind of Rock feel with a twinge of Country, yet it’s lyrics and musical stylings make it truly a modern day Rock groove. The raspy-ness of Taylor’s voice pairs perfectly with DeMonico’s guitar solos peppered and Dennis Drummond peppered throughout.

“The song is about that moment where you’re in an unhealthy relationship, or you’re in a push-and-pull with yourself and you know you need to get your shit together and start moving in a forward direction,” Taylor said. “All of that fear of what that actually means is holding you back and pulling you back in. Ultimately, that’s what the song is about – being in that moment. The guys do this crazy guitar dual at the end to show off that war inside of you, but it’s a song that definitely has an empowering aspect to it. Not too many songs today illustrate that or focus on that specifically. The song was inspired by a lot of experiences in my life. I’ve had quite a few unhealthy relationships. I really appreciate unique and talented people, and a lot of the ones I’ve ended up in relationships with have struggled with addiction or mental illness. That comes with a lot of navigating through a lot of mental stuff before you’re ready to. So this song asks questions like, ‘Is there really anyone to blame at the end of the day?’ Just do what’s best for you. At the end of the day, we’re all trying to navigate our own shit. That’s where this song came from.”

The two other singles from Hippie Speedball that will drop in the coming months are “Trouble” and “Acid Rain.” The first is another upbeat rock song about people who get in trouble and get so deep into issues that they feel like as long as their lives are already broken, they might as well break them all the way before getting on to something new. “Acid Rain” is more of a rock ballad with an almost Gospel feel to it, or “real churchy” as Taylor said.

“It’s pretty and the solos are epic,” she said. “It’s about talking to God and what you would say if you felt like you were abandoned by that higher power and the conversation you’d be having. Like most of our music, it’s a song that inspires people to think a little further, or at least to think for themselves. I hope our music is the kind of music that if you’re hurting, it makes you feel less alone. And if not, maybe the insanity of it will inspire you to embrace the crazy inside of you and find something that makes you happy and is positive for the world around you. I’m a little bit nutty but I try to channel that into positive stuff like art and music, and I hope that other people can relate to that and maybe do some of their own art and music.”
