0Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant & Kerri Kenney-Silver On “Reno 911! Defunded,” The Roku Channel, Van Halen & More
Last year it was announced that Roku Originals — the new brand name for future original programming on The Roku Channel — would feature 30 titles, including award-winning and scripted series, documentaries, alternative and reality programming with notable talent, including Anna Kendrick, Chrissy Teigen, Joe Jonas, Adam Devine, Liam Hemsworth, Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Hart. All of this content would be available for free on the Roku platform for viewers in the U.S., the U.K. and Canada. Beyond those originals and select never-before-seen episodes of Punk’d featuring DaBaby, Machine Gun Kelly and Tyra Banks, In turn, The Roku Channel provides access to 250,000+ movies and TV episodes, plus thousands of streaming channels related to fitness, food, and children’s content.
One of the highly-anticipated shows part of The Roku Channel is Reno 911!. Reno 911! originally ran on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2009, also spawning a feature film. All of this came years after its creators Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon and Kerri Kenney-Silver not only found fame via the cult MTV sketch-comedy show The State, but had found success writing and/or starring in major film and television projects. The return of Reno 911 for a 7th season was first announced in December 2019, although production on its 8th season was initially halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, Roku Originals announced brand-new 30 minute episodes of Reno 911! for its latest season — timely as ever and titled Reno 911! Defunded — as set to premiere via The Roku Channel on February 25, 2022.
In June 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Thomas Lennon via Zoom, as embedded below. More recently than that, on February 22, 2022, I had the pleasure of not only speaking with Lennon again, yet also Robert Ben Garant and Kerri Kenney-Silver. Beyond Reno 911!, we spoke about Van Halen and the city of Reno, Nevada. More information on Lennon, Garant, Kenney-Silver, Reno 911! and other projects of the trio can be found by clicking here, here, here, here, here here and here.
