0Joseph Marcell On The New Film “The Exorcism Of God,” His Take On Peacock’s New Series “Bel-Air,” Future Acting Projects & More
On March 11, 2022, Saban Films will release the horror film The Exorcism Of God to theaters, on-demand and digital outlets. Directed by Alejandro Hidalgo (The House At The End Of Time) from a script by Santiago Fernández Calvete (Sangre Vurdalak) and Hidalgo, the film stars Joseph Marcell (The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air), María Gabriela de Faría (The Moodys, Deadly Class), Will Beinbrink (It Chapter Two, Dark), Hector Kotsifakis (Malverde: El Santo Patrón) and Irán Castillo (SOS Me Estoy Anamorando). The plot of the film is rooted around character Peter Williams, an American priest working in Mexico, who is considered a saint by many local parishioners. However, due to a botched exorcism, he carries a dark secret that’s eating him alive until he gets an opportunity to face his own demon one final time.
The aforementioned Joseph Marcell is someone I first learned about from his portrayal of Geoffrey Butler on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. However, Marcell was a steadily-working acting for nearly 15 years before landing that role on the NBC sit-com. A member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, he serves on the board of the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. His credits also include work on Doctor Who, EastEnders, The Bold & The Beautiful, Jericho, Holby City, Ratched, Living Single and Mammoth.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Joseph Marcell via Zoom on March 10, 2022, as embedded below. Beyond The Exorcism Of God, we spoke about other upcoming projects, his theatrical background and training, and how he feels about the new Peacock series Bel-Air. More on Marcell, The Exorcism Of God and other upcoming Saban Films releases can be found by clicking online here, here and here.
