Dorothy On The Latest Single “Black Sheep,” Working With Roc Nation, Muay Thai, Career Goals & Finding Positive Mental Health

Last month, blues-rock band Dorothy released the music video for the single “Black Sheep,” as premiered via MTV Live, MTVU and MTV Biggest Pop. The single quickly hit the Top 40 on the Active Rock Radio, Mediabase and Active Rock charts. As directed by Nick Peterson, the concept for the “Black Sheep” music video was literally taken from a visual page from Dorothy’s life. Shot at Jaxon Boxing Gym in Los Angeles, the video features Dorothy practicing the sport that has helped her keep on point and fit on every level. Per Dorothy in a press release related to the single and its exciting music video: “I train Muay Thai and boxing for strength as well as mental health… Boxing has helped me immensely, I feel strong inside and out and I hope it inspires fans to make healthier choices.”

Dorothy recently wrapped her California Dreamin’ Tour with headliner Dirty Honey, in addition to landing high-profile festival spots at Louder Than Life 2022, WRIF Riff Fest 2022 and KEGL Freaker’s Ball. Further significant about 2022 for Dorothy and band, the recent single “Rest In Peace” claimed the #2 position on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Radio chart, while Dorothy’s Gifts From The Holy Ghost album debuted in the Top 5 on the Current Hard Rock Music Chart. All the while, Jay-Z — who signed Dorothy to his label Roc Nation — continues to be a high-profile supporter of the group.

On November 8, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dorothy via Zoom, which you can watch here. Beyond the success of Gifts From The Holy Ghost, we talked about the personal journey that led her into sobriety, career goals and her creative process. More on Dorothy and band — which includes Jason Ganberg. Devon Pangle, Eli Wulfmeier and Eliot Lorango — can be found here, here and here.
