Have a Cozy Fall and Winter with Cognac Cocktail Recipes by Hennessy

As the weather cools and the holiday season kicks in, Hennessy is excited to share a collection of cocktails that cater to the chilly, cozy and festive nature of fall and winter. You can put a little boozy fun into your festivities with Hennessy’s warm and cold cocktails.

Whether it’s the Spiced Orange Smash Cocktail, the Winter’s Spirit Cocktail, or Hennessy’s spin on classics like a Hot Toddy or Old-Fashioned, these drinks are a great way to beat the cold, welcome the holidays, and celebrate the end of the year.

FALL RECIPES

The Spiced Orange Smash Cocktail

This version of the Smash spices up the classic drink with Hennessy V.S, orange marmalade and bitters – the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Hennessy V.S

  • 0.75 oz Velvet Falernum

  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

  • 1 Heaping tbsp Orange Marmalade

  • 0.5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice

Recipe:

  1. Add all liquids to a shaker tin with ice.

  2. Shake until well chilled.

  3. Fine strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass.

  4. Garnish with an orange twist.

A Long Night in Madrid

A slightly roasted spicy note comes through with a dry, slightly sweet finish. No need to be in Madrid to enjoy this drink.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Hennessy Very Special

  • 0.75 oz Madeira

  • 0.25 oz Grade A maple syrup

  • 4 dashes Angostura bitters™

  • 1 Egg white

  • 1 Coco nib shavings, or dark chocolate

Recipe:

  1. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake without ice to activate egg white.

  2. Then add ice and shake to chill.

  3. Strain into a Coupe or Martini glass and shave coco nibs or dark chocolate over the top.

The Cozy Up Cocktail

This woody cocktail will have you ready to enjoy the evening with its floral notes, Hennessy V.S.O.P and a touch of ginger. Grab a glass and cozy up this fall.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège
  • 1 oz Honey Syrup
  • 1 oz Lemon juice
  • 3 Pieces of Ginger
  • 1 Soda water or water
  • 1 Cinnamon stick

Recipe:

  1. Muddle 3 pieces of Ginger in a shaker.

  2. Add the ingredients (except the soda) and ice.

  3. Shake and strain into glass.

  4. Add soda water.

  5. Garnish with smoked cinnamon stick.

The Apple Shrub Cocktail

The Apple Shrub, which dates back hundreds of years, brings apple and spice in a complex and bold expression – it’s like sipping on history.

Ingredients: 

  • 1.5 oz Hennessy V.S
  • 0.5 oz Calvados/apple brandy

  • 1 oz Apple Cider Gastrique

  • 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters

  • 1 Fresh Grated Cinnamon

Recipe:

  1. Fill glass with ice.

  2. Add all liquids to a glass with ice.

  3. Stir until well chilled.

  4. Garnish.

The Hennessy Honey Cocktail

Relax after work or enjoy a romantic evening while indulging in a sweet drink. Acacia honey and Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège blend to create a warm drink perfect for sharing and just as great to enjoy alone. 

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Of Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège
  • 0.15 oz Of acacia honey
  • 1.5 oz Hot water
  • 1 Slice of lemon

Recipe:

  1. In a glass, mix the Hennessy, honey and hot but not boiling water.

  2. Stir to dissolve the honey.

  3. Garnish with a lemon slice.

WINTER RECIPES

The Old-Fashioned Cocktail

Created in Louisville, Kentucky in 1881, the Old-Fashioned found its spiritual home at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel bar in New York City. Cognac, warm and aromatically spiced, a dash of bitters and sweet syrup all blend perfectly to make up this legendary cocktail.

Ingredients:

  • 1.75 oz Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège

  • 0.4 oz Simple Syrup

  • 2 Angostura bitter dashes

  • 1 Orange zest

Recipe:

  1. Drop bitters into an Old-Fashioned glass filled with ice cubes.

  2. Add a splash of water and the syrup.

  3. Pour in the Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège slowly.

  4. Garnish with a twist of orange.

The Hennessy Coqui Cocktail

The Coqui cocktail brings flavor and fun to the holidays with a Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège take on a Puerto Rican classic.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège

  • 0.5 Cup Rum

  • 2 oz Frangelico™

  • 0.75 Cup evaporated milk

  • 0.25 Cup coconut cream

  • 2 Egg yolks

  • 1 Tea spoon Vanilla Extract

Recipe:

  1. Combine the ingredients in a blender.

  2. Blend lightly so as to avoid foam.

  3. Leave chilled in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours and serve either neat or over ice in Punch or Rocks glasses.

  4. Garnish with grated nutmeg.

The Hennessy Winter’s Spirit Cocktail

An instant holiday classic. The Winter’s Spirit Cocktail is a fruity drink that will keep you nice and toasty during the chilly winter months. Stay warm with its flavorful mix of sugar cane syrup, ginger, lemon and Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège.

Ingredients:

  • 1.75 oz Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège
  • 1.5 oz Hot water
  • 0.15 oz Of sugar cane syrup
  • 2 Lemon supremes (wedges without the peel, pith and skin)
  • 1 Thin slice of ginger
  • 1 Orange twist

Recipe:

  1. Mix the Hennessy, sugar, lemon and ginger in a glass.

  2. Stir everything gently to allow the sugar to dissolve.

  3. Top with hot water and garnish with an orange twist.

The Hot Toddy Cocktail

Nothing says winter quite like the warmth and comfort of The Hot Toddy. Pour a glass of Hennessy V.S and boiling water into your favorite mug, mix it with honey and get comfy.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Hennessy V.S
  • 1 Squeeze of one lemon wedge
  • 1 Tablespoon of Honey to taste
  • 1 Top with Boiling water
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick

Recipe:

  1. Add all liquids to a heat proof mug.

  2. Stir to dissolve honey.

  3. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.

The Jerry Thomas Brandy Punch Cocktail

This punch will light up the room with its vibrant colors and fruit-infused greatness. Gather your friends and family to savor the greatness of Hennessy V.S mixed with lightly aged rum and berries and make a toast with this Hennessy all-time favorite.

Ingredients:

  • 12.5 oz Hennessy V.S
  • 5 oz Of Water
  • 5 oz Of Lightly Aged Rum
  • 2 Cups of simple syrup or 3 cups of sugar
  • 9 oz Of lemon juice
  • 0.5 oz Of Grand Marnier™
  • 4 oz Of Hibiscus Grenadine
  • 0.5 A Pineapple sliced
  • 2 Oranges sliced into wheels
  • 1 Package of Raspberries

Recipe:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl.

  2. Stir to dissolve sugar as much as possible.

  3. Add a large block of ice to chill punch before serving.
