I recently had the privilege of sitting down for a captivating conversation with Susan Namangale, the dynamic global head of The Gift of Chess, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Susan and I began by delving into the organization’s triumphant venture into Ghana. The narrative unfolded as she detailed the complexities of negotiating distribution channels in Africa, shedding light on the challenges they had faced. The conversation ignited as we explored the significance of chess as a vehicle for honing critical thinking skills – a crucial asset in a world teeming with complexities.

“We’re not just distributing chess sets,” Susan emphasized, her eyes lit with passion. “We’re nurturing minds to think strategically, fostering skills that transcend the chessboard.”

As we dived deeper, the discussion turned to the logistics of achieving the monumental goal of one million chess sets by 2030. Susan candidly shared the organization’s ardent efforts to secure donations, the lifeblood of their mission. The room brimmed with optimism as she spoke about the resounding impact a simple chess set can have on education and rehabilitation.

“Chess isn’t just a game; it’s a tool that cultivates future leaders,” Susan mused. “In prisons and schools, it bestows hope and joy, transcending barriers.”

My excitement was evident as I mentioned the positive feedback I’d seen from a Kansas prison captain who had been involved in The Gift of Chess program. He envisioned a brighter future for inmates, where the strategic prowess learned on the chessboard can to life beyond the prison walls. My admiration for the program’s impact is undeniable and I praised its supporters for ushering in positive change.

With the meeting’s crescendo, we shifted gears to discuss Susan’s recent on-camera appearance where she discussed her journey from a small village as a young girl, to chess ambassador to now Global Head of this very significant movement. The camaraderie between us was tangible, a fusion of shared vision and mutual admiration. The exchange concluded on a resounding high, as I shared my appreciation for Susan Namangale and her leadership and of course my and The Hype Magazine’s support in this movement to inspire critical thinking which in turn will determine our future.

In the end, our interview was more than a mere conversation; it was an immersion into the inspiring world of The Gift of Chess organization. Susan Namangale’s passion and unwavering dedication left an indelible mark, igniting a fervent desire to witness their mission of enlightenment and transformation unfurl as they move steadfastly toward the ambitious goal of one million chess sets by 2030…Tune in!!!
