Sevendust’s Lajon Witherspoon On The New Album “Blood & Stone,” Future Plans & More

Hard rock band Sevendust formed over 25 years ago in 1994 yet the hits keep coming. 2015’s Kill The Flaw represented a high watermark, hitting the #13 spot on the Billboard Top 200 and marking Sevendust’s 5th consecutive Top 10 release on the Top Rock Albums Chart and 3rd straight Top 3 on the Hard Rock Albums Chart. The lead single off Kill The Flaw, “Thank You,” ultimately earned a nomination in the category of “Best Metal Performance” at the 2016 GRAMMY Awards, a career first. All I See Is War continued the band’s successful track record, debuting at #28 on the Billboard 200 and yielding more charting singles via “Dirty,” “Medicated” and “Risen.” Dozens of charting hits at this point!

Blood & Stone is the latest full-length from Sevendust, which consists of singer Lajon Witherspoon, guitarists Clint Lowery and John Connolly, bassist Vince Hornsby and drummer Morgan Rose. The group’s 13th studio album was produced by long-time friend of the band Michael “Elvis” Baskette, who has also helmed charting albums for Alter Bridge, Tremonti and Slash. Second single “Dying To Love” has already hit the radio, while the quintet’s cover of Soundgarden’s “The Day I Tried To Live” previously hit the Top 15 at Active Rock radio. The music video for “Dying To Live” was helmed by Jensen Noen, as known for his work with Falling In Reverse, Crown The Empire and Asking Alexandria.

Also newsworthy about Sevendust is that the band will be performing its first-ever livestream — and only show of 2020 — on October 23rd at 9:00 PM EST / 6:00 PM PST. Titled Sevendust: Live In Your Living Room, the performance will feature songs from Blood & Stone beyond quintessential Sevendust classics from albums throughout the group’s 26-year career. Tickets for the livestream are priced at $17.00 and are available for purchase via at https://nocapshows.com/artist?name=sevendust.

On October 13, 2020, I had the pleasure of interviewing Sevendust frontman Lajon Witherspoon via Zoom, as embedded. More on Witherspoon and Sevendust can be found online via www.sevendust.com, www.facebook.com/sevendustofficial, www.instagram.com/sevendustofficial and www.twitter.com/sevendust.
