Thomas Lennon On “Reno 911!” Coming To The Roku Channel, “The State,” Writing Projects, Chris Hardwick, Dogfish Head & More

Earlier this year it was announced that Roku Originals — the new brand name for future original programming on The Roku Channel — would feature 30 titles, including award-winning and scripted series, documentaries, alternative and reality programming with notable talent, including Anna Kendrick, Chrissy Teigen, Joe Jonas, Adam Devine, Liam Hemsworth, Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Hart. All of this content would be available for free on the Roku platform for viewers in the U.S., the U.K. and Canada. Beyond those originals and select never-before-seen episodes of Punk’d featuring DaBaby, Machine Gun Kelly and Tyra Banks, The Roku Channel provides access to 250,000+ movies and TV episodes, plus thousands of streaming channels related to fitness, food, and children’s content.

One of the highly-anticipated shows coming to The Roku Channel is Reno 911!. Reno 911! originally ran on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2009, also spawning a feature film. All of this came years after its creators Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon and Kerri Kenney-Silver not only found fame via the cult MTV sketch-comedy show The State but had found success writing and/or starring in major film and television projects. The return of Reno 911 for a 7th season was first announced in December 2019, although production on its 8th season was initially halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In other words, comedy fans ought to rejoice that Reno 911! looks to be here to stay for another season.

The aforementioned Thomas Lennon stars as Lieutenant Jim Dangle on Reno 911!, and has written numerous hit studio films over the last 2 decades alongside co-creator Robert Ben Garant. This includes the Night At The Museum films, Baywatch, The Pacifier and Hell Baby. As an actor, you have also probably seen Lennon in the recent CBS reboot of The Odd Couple, The Dark Knight Rises, Transformers: Age Of Extinction and/or Hot Tub Time Machine 2. Lennon is also the author of the Ronan Boyle series.

On June 30, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Thomas Lennon via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond Reno 911!, we spoke about other projects he has had a hand in, including The State, Viva Variety and the 2011 book he co-wrote with Garant. Apologies if it sounds like I am interrupting the guy regularly, but there was a lot to ask him yet only an allotted 10 minutes to speak. More information on Lennon, Reno 911! and other projects of Lennon’s can be found by clicking here, here and here.
