Rene “Whiteboy” Rodriguez On His September 11, 2021 Fight for BYB Extreme, Bare-Knuckle & More

BYB Extreme Fighting Series was established in 2014 to bring fight fans what they want most: action. BYB Extreme Bareknuckle Brawls are designed to leave decisions in the hands of the fighters and not the judges. BYB Extreme is reportedly the originator of backyard brawls and responsible for bringing it to a global audience, as well as the creators of the mighty “Trigon” ring, which helps ensure close combat. In turn, BYB Extreme fighters work to take the action to the center of the ring versus rather than risk getting caught up in one of “The Trigon’s” tight corners. Again, ladies and gentleman, action.

Coming off the heels of July 16, 2021’s BYB6 event — which featured the bareknuckle series crowning its first champion with Patricia Juarez winning in the women’s 135 lb. category — is BYB7 with Jomi “The Archangel” Escoboza facing off against Miami, Florida’s Rene “White Boy” Rodriguez. Taking place on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the James L. Knight Center, this main event serves as the finals of the BYB men’s 185 lb. championship tournament. Escoboza was slated to face Matt “MFD” Delanoit, who scored a controversial knockout over Rodriguez during their semifinal match at BYB6, but due to injuries sustained during that fight, Delanoit has agreed to to step aside while he fully recovers, allowing for Rodriquez to move on and face for a highly-anticipated rematch Escoboza at BYB7.

On August 14, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Rene “White Boy” Rodriguez via Zoom, as embedded below. We spoke about his next fight for BYB Extreme, life outside of the ring, and future plans beyond BYB7. More on Rodriguez and BYB can be found here, here, here and here.
