Live Session With Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate John Jackson

In this live session with Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate John Jackson, we look at this long-time advocate for the houseless in Los Angeles. We discuss his journey as a multi-cultural military brat, his military service, and his platform from which he declares he’ll find out where the money went for vital programs and services for Angelenos…money that amounts to billions!

When CBS News announced that Jackson had joined a roster of billionaire movers and shakers to qualify for the Primary Election Ballot for June 7, 2022, to replace outgoing Mayor Eric Michael Garcetti, who has hit the established term limit for this office in Los Angeles, there was an uptick in attention to this deeply entrenched businessman and a dark horse in this race.

As we celebrate AAPI History Month, Jackson’s appearance on the ballot this year is significant; his multi-cultural background, Black and Filipino, highlights the fact that an Asian American has serious inroads to the top post in the city and brings someone whose been on the outside looking in, turned his circumstances into such that he’s now an employer, an active advocate for the houseless, and veterans of which he is one…Jackson proudly and honorably served in the United States Airforce. That is a powerful statement about the possibilities to participate in the legendary American Dream…through hard work, intestinal fortitude, and community service, Jackson has impacted the lives of “common folk.” This gives him a powerful base from which to work and perhaps change the dynamic of how Los Angeles addresses some of its most important people-related issues.

One of his biggest community initiatives has been supporting and striving to provide safety, security, and access to services for LA’s homeless population, even at the expense of his own pocket. A big question he poses is, what happened to the more than three billion dollars provided by the federal government in 2016 to help address a 30%+ houseless issue in LA…according to Jackson, the state of California added an additional 1 billion to that coffer…and yet according to Jackson, the houseless situation has risen to over 40%. He wants to follow the money and ensure it’s used to assist those it was earmarked for instead of lining the pockets of fatcats, creating high-paying jobs in agencies that don’t deliver promised services.

I could go on and on as the conversation with Mr. Jackson was incredibly revealing about the system, his experiences growing up, why he does what he does regarding the houseless, and how he began his foray into advocacy. He takes us deep, and my words won’t give you all the nuances…Tune In!

Here’s a quick look at his platform and what he looks to accomplish as Mayor of Los Angeles:
