0Vadhir Derbez On His New Film “White Elephant,” Future TV & Film Projects, Music & More
One of the biggest stars of Latinx cinema, Vadhir Derbez has been in the public eye as an actor in television and film for the past 20 years. 2020 saw Derbez expanding his repertoire to include more English language film and TV projects including guest starring in the British comedy The Last Team, as produced by the production team behind The Inbetweeners, and starring opposite Guy Pierce in the English-language horror film, The Seventh Day. The year prior, Derbez starred in 3 movies, a remake of 50 First Dates (for Sony International Pictures), Dulce Familia and Veinteañera: Divorciada Y Fantastica.
Signaling his expanding power as an actor, in early 2022, Vadhir Derbez signed a multi-year “first look” deal with Spanish language streamer Pantaya. Months following that, Derbez was announced as appearing in the new film White Elephant. Directed by Jesse V. Johnson (Avengement, The Debt Collector) from a script by Johnson and Erik Martinez (Kung Fu Pho), the film also stars Michael Rooker (the Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise, The Walking Dead), Bruce Willis (Red, Looper, Die Hard), Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion, Seven Psychopaths) and John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich, In The Line Of Fire).
On June 2, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with Vadhir Derbez via Zoom, as embedded below. More on Derbez and White Elephant — now out via AMC+ — can be found here, here and here.
