Nymrod: “God’s Gift in a World’s Future” Creates Educated Thug Music

The heavens can’t always protect us. They chose to throw down challenges instead of showering us with blessings. Not every tempest passes in an instant and not every deluge can be brushed off. We can wait for blue skies to be restored or we can take the plunge, defy the elements and seize the day . Growing up with a rough start in the Cooper Projects in Brooklyn, Nymrod (aka Corry P. Stokes), began his music career while serving a 5 year prison sentence. During his incarceration Nimrod met New York City rapper Maxx B who became a friend and mentor having recognized his talent and encouraged him to begin songwriting professionally. After his release Nymrod transformed his talent into a professional career and launched his own record label….

Nymrod who is also an entrepreneur, ghostwriter, label owner and talented performer, has showcased his gift up and down the East Coast. He has collaborated with artists including Redman, The Weeknd, Melo, The Heatmakerz, H.E.R., PMD of EPMD, Junior Ried, Tyga, and a cascade of other well-known artists.

His newest album entitled “Educated Thug Music Vol.1, The year of the Narcissist” is quickly receiving national and global attention. Already being played on the biggest radio stations in both the East and West coasts including Hot 97, Xtreme 104 FM, iHeart radio, Be 100 Atlanta’s most popular station. The album is an inspiration to young artists growing up in similar situations as Nymrod did. Nymrod is currently in the studio recording Volume 2 of “Educated Thug Music.”

What inspired you to do music, hip-hop music, the way you do it?

I was working with someone named Max P.   He pushed me towards music. He was doing music already and I played with him here and there. He’s the one that pushed me towards it. And then from there I fell in love with it once I seen what I could do with it.

How do you write a song? How do you write a rap?

It’s funny, I was talking about this the other day. I listen to a beat and I can see a movie to the beat that I am listening to.  Then I write a song. If I can see a video for it and see how the video should be then I would write the song. I hope that makes sense. If you’ve ever watched a movie and hear the music that’s playing for that theme in movie, you be like ,wow this music goes along with this scene. That’s how I write my music. I need to see a movie.

Where do you hope to be in 5 years?

I hate to say the next Jay-Z but I want to be that mogul in the music business.   I want to help artists to come out. That’s where I hope to be in the next 5 years.

What is your ultimate stage fantasy?

To be on stage with Drake and perform a song with him.

What projects are you working on right now?

I just put out educated thug music on December 11th. I am now working on my new EP called Fengshui.  That is coming out September 9th.

What is educated thug music?

I tried to teach people my music sometimes.   Sometimes I’m just talking shit.  This album here was to teach people or show people a different side of me. I was from the street and upgraded to a businessman.  It is the Educated thug music. That is what this album was. That you can Elevate yourself.   I do other businesses, I do the real estate. I have a stock market business that I own. I have a construction business that I own.   I have a moving company that I own and I am about to buy a club.I came from nothing. My mother worked her butt off make sure we all had but it was a struggle.

Where was your dad?

My dad wasn’t there. I had my stepfather. He was amazing. My biological wasn’t there but my step-father was the best thing ever.

How many of you were there?

There were five of us. One of my oldest brothers had passed away many moons ago.

You kind of got raised tough.

Little bit. When I was 13 I got cut and shot. I got cut in my face. I got shot in my back. I was going home from school and they tried to kidnap me. It was a little bit rough.

What advice would you give somebody in your position? There are a lot of people out there that have a tough time and I feel like something creative would help them like music. So what kind of advice would you give?

I tell people don’t go with the flow, be the flow.  Be your own person. Stay true to yourself. Anything you want to do, just do it. No matter how much it takes to get there.  No matter how many hurdles it is just push through. You can only stop you.

Who were your biggest influences growing up?

My mom. My mom is number one. My stepdad was the epitome of what a man is. My oldest brother AZ he is another inspiration to me. Max P after that.

What do you think of hip hop music today?

I can’t say that I enjoy it. There are some artists that I enjoy.. But I feel like it just took a wrong turn somewhere. That’s what I hope to do to make a change to put it back on course. Good music. There are a few artists  I like to listen to like Benny the butcher, RJ Payne, Method Man and WuTang.
