Live Session with Oscar and GRAMMY award winner Tiara Thomas following the drop of her new single “Don’t Talk Back” which follows a two-year recording hiatus for Tiara, where she spent much of her considerable talent writing for other artists, including Grammy winners, John Legend, H.E.R, Fat Joe, Wale, and many others.
“Don’t Talk Back” which Tiara co-produced, is a fun, sexy conversation with an intricate music bed where she showcases her mastery of timbre and intonation, making her voice one of the complex and nuanced layers within the production itself. Lyrically, the song describes one of those “gotta have it” moments where one person takes a strong lead in an “adult” situation…LOL. Played this song for my wife of 20 years…thank you, Tiara!!!
2021 saw Tiara’s pen game recognized when she won her first GRAMMY Award for Song of the Year for co-writing “I Can’t Breathe”. That same year, Thomas also received a Golden Globe nomination and was honored with an Academy Award for Best Original Song, for co-writing the song “Fight for You”, from the film, Judas and the Black Messiah.

In this Live Session, Tiara Thomas weighed in not only on the new joint and her creative process, which according to her can be activated by a sound, a conversation, or perhaps even a joking moment, but she also dove into how she sees the creator Tiara Thomas from the inside looking out…which led to a fun moment! A very aware and considered woman, we moved from subject to subject, with her sometimes taking a beat to respond, and kind of like her music, that made me lean in because I knew her response would spark 10 more questions I wanted to squeeze into our time together…yo man Shrek said it best, “…layers…” Welp, that is the perfect opportunity to tell you to tune in below to hear what I feel has been one of the top conversations I’ve had with a multi-faceted creative this whole year…so…tune in!!!
