Cat and the Queen Drops New Album “I Caught A Fish”

Cat and The Queen’s new album I Caught A Fish has been written during quarantine, where the artist experiments with different concepts and ideas to make a collage of her 2020 memories. Rather than being delicate and well-packaged, the whole album highlights raw emotions with direct and heartfelt lyrics, reflecting a sense of bluntness through self-reflection. Some of the concepts include navigating loneliness and isolation, swimming out of the delusional memories of relationships and heartbreaks, and raising voices for the unjust.

The lack of a defined and unified theme grants the album a freshness and unique perspective heavily embedded in the use of percussion, synths and pads, vocal layers, and sound effects. Some of the tracks embrace nostalgia that reminds the listener of watching the tide waves under the moonlight or peeking through a wooden cabinet amongst a misty forest. The track “Lonesome Flame,” Cat and The Queen’s most recent single, encourages everyone to embrace loneliness as a friend by facing their own mind and welcoming the unfiltered thoughts to come and go. From the anger and frustration of “Cabin Fever” and “Haunted World”, to the longingness of “Wanting” and “Juice”, Cat and The Queen remind the listener of Florence of The Machine with a voice of Lana Del Rey.

Cat and The Queen (CATQ) is the name that embodies both Cat Montgomery, a Toronto-based singer-songwriter, and her beloved keyboard, whom she calls adoringly, “The Queen.” Playing piano from a very young age, CATQ combines her musical skill with her work as a theatre artist to make each song she creates a raw and visceral experience. Three albums later, and many electrifying stages shows under her belt, Cat and The Queen is a musical and theatrical outfit that serves as an outlet to create and perform, in motion, stories of the heart.
