Live Session with Platoon’s Kiddo K

Live Session with Platoon signee Kenneth “Kiddo K” Alexander, a Louisiana-born rapper known for his unique sound and hyper-realistic lyrical styling. Moving from New Orleans to Monroe following the Hurricane Katrina disaster of 2005 has given Kiddo a strong sense of attachment to both cities, which features heavily throughout his songs. In the conversation, we talked about how each city’s individual characteristics influenced his music.

We also got Dionte Goodlett, Head of A&R for Platoon to weigh in on just what it was that stood out about Kiddo K for him and the label and bottom line, it came down to work ethic and sound.

Since it was founded in 2016 by Denzyl Feigelson, the multi-award-winning boutique artist services company has identified groundbreaking talent from around the world, including Billie Eilish (distribution), Mr. Eazi, Adekunle Gold, Ayra Starr,  Aaron Smith, Peter Raeburn, Lil Silva, and more. A new member of this impressive list, Kiddo is dedicated to greatness – and attributes his drive, determination, and steadfast loyalty to his vision to his own work ethic.

After signing to Platoon in 2021, Kiddo got busy working on the upcoming release of his debut mixtape “Diary of a Project Kid” slated for October 21. The young lion just dropped his label debut single “Pablo Escobar” setting the stage for the follow-up single “Illegal Love” which will be live on September 30.

In reviewing some of his past offerings, I noticed he, even at his young age, encompasses some traits that take him beyond the simple title of rapper, he’s got Hip Hop in his soul. One of the interesting things he shares with Hip Hop titans Jay-Z and Biggie is that he doesn’t write his joints down. I found it funny that when I followed up with a question about a rhyme book he asked me “What’s that.” He describes his creative method as hearing the beat for the first time when he gets in the studio, hits the booth, and comes off the top of his head. Kiddo does say that as he was coming up, he studied the work of the greats to evolve his music and learn song structure, etc. I guess that would be the Hip Hop version of learning to play an instrument by ear…not everyone can do that and puts him in a special category in my eyes.

Overall the conversation was valuable in getting to know this young dynamo and left me with the impression that it’s going to be hard to outwork him, he won’t become complacent and he will stay true to the work ethic that got him this far. I’m putting it out there right now, Kiddo K is one we’ll be talking about for years to come.

Last thing before I turn this keyboard loose is that his focus on telling his truth, not made-up garbage is something that has proven to stand the test of time. He’s real with it which means he will continue to be an asset to the fabric of Hip Hop and is most assuredly one to watch…Tune in below and leave a comment to let us know your thoughts!

Keep up with Kiddo K
