Live Session with Roc Nation’s HDBeenDope

Live Session with Roc Nation’s HDBeenDope who has been grinding steadily and helping keep the true spirit of Hip Hop alive by celebrating the art of lyricism since he came into the game. I first became aware of him in 2019 via his single “20K” which floored me and caused me to begin following his drops. One of his standouts for me was “Best Out” which dropped in May 2021 and let me know that this young lion was here to stay.

In September of 2022, Roc Nation backed me up on my feelings by signing the Brooklyn rising star and he celebrated with the single “Wake Em Up” which was accompanied by a great visual. The banger produced by Dizzy Banko via Roc Nation Label brought a hard-hitting reminder both sonically and verbally that this young lion is NOT TO BE PLAYED WITH!!!

The world got a massive taste of HDBeenDope at this past BET Hip Hop Awards, which was his first-ever awards show appearance, during a televised freestyle segment he announced his new EP What Can They Say which dropped on October 21st. The five-song project is an amazing collection but for ME, Mad Man is one of the best-ever callouts of all time and will probably turn out to be one of the essential songs for this cat over the next few decades!

In our conversation, HDBeenDope talks about the defining moment that brought him to music, and the overall journey which now includes being signed to the iconic Roc Nation. We talked about his celebration of the lyrical element of Hip Hop and how he came to his full voice. Of course, we talked about being a Brooklyn artist signed to HOV…which he says hasn’t totally marinated yet…no doubt!

I’m saying now as I’ve said before, we need more young lions like this in Hip Hop, they respect and revere the culture and take their place in it seriously. He understands the responsibility he’s decided to shoulder in the furtherance of an art form and a global community.
